Randall and Hopkirk is one of the best remembered shows from the ITC stock of British made shows from the 1960s and 1970s. This DVD box set is great.
The whole series is pure escapist fun. And the show has a strong British atmosphere that is soaked in 1960s flavour. It's a series that cannot be taken too seriously. It is light hearted and funny. And it is full of adventure and emotion. The stories are interesting and the acting, production and music are first class. And of course for a series made in 1969 it is full of nostalgia as well.
It's a series I have seen many times and never get tired of seeing.
Jeff Randall and Marty Hopkirk are partners in a detective agency. Marty is murdered and returns as a ghost to help Jeff bring his killers to justice. He has to do it before daybreak otherwise he breaks a rule of the afterlife. "Afore the sun shall rise anew, each ghost unto his grave must go, cursed be the ghost who dares to stay, and face the awful light of day, he shall not to the grave return, until a hundred years be gone"
Marty stays earthbound and continues to helps Jeff solve cases. Only Jeff can see him. Even his widow Jean cannot see him. She does not even know he is there. Being a ghost comes in useful to the detective agency but things don't always go smoothly and Jeff, Jean and Marty get into all sorts of trouble.
