Disappointing,

I bought this as my first sat nav and used it for about 3 months. I liked the layout, size of screen and directions were easy to follow, but.... Of the 12 times when I used it, the unit couldn't find the postcose I entered for over half the journeys. I had to navigate to a major hospital by entering the name of a nearby restaurant! No instruction book (I hate being expected to download a hundred page document if I want to have instructions in the car), menus not always intuitive, wouldn't charge from the PC, took up to 10 minutes to pick up the GPS signal on being switched on and I never managed to successfully download updates. Finally, one evening, in an area I did not know and was depending on the sat nav, it died! Fortunately it never recovered and I got my money back. For the last week I have a TOM TOM XL V2. What a joy. Easy menus, instant GPS recognition and all the post codes the RAC couldn't find, the TOM TOM has picked up.
I'm surprised RAC have put their name to this. Don't waste your money, you can get much better products than this.

So what is the first thing you want to do when you get a SatNav out of the box?
Enter a postcode of a place you know and test it! Well you can't with this. The quick start instructions only tell you the dead obvious and are a waste of paper. Sitting in the car in the drive for an hour and playing is the only way to learn to use this. Once you have lost your temper entering postcodes and getting lists and lists and lists of irrelevant places I finally tried a house number and street name. Wow. It worked. So then I went back into favourite places and tried to undo the errors I made playing. Again round and round in circles. ONCE i'd actually got on the road with it it was fantastic, very intuitive, clear and easy to follow and well worth the money. But the documentation and learning curve give a very poor first impression of this very good product.

RAC 4.3 Sat Nav UK Mapping,

Very poor performance. Would not accept post codes, kept trying to send me to Aberdeen instead of Canterbury, East Kent. Would not accept speed camera warning instructions. Sent back - Amazon excellent in providing replacement in 3 days. Sadly replacement unit just as bad, only worked correctly 1 in 4 routes with no camera warnings. This is pathetic for a famous brand name - RAC. Do not waste your money on this product. Will try Tom Tom next time.
