RAC 315E SatNav,

This review is from: RAC 315 Europe Satellite Navigation - EU Mapping, 4.3" Touch Screen (Electronics)
Bought this Rac SatNav from Amazon. Very Clear Display and excellent audio which can be set for auto level which increases audio level for instructions as you increase speed, and the noise level in the car or van/lorry. It can be set for car, lorry(Motorhome or Caravan) or pedestrian. It has a rechargeable lithium battery,3to4hr use which is ideal for pedestrian use in a strange city. Full Postcode or descriptive input and very easy and simple to use, unlike a lot of over-complicated units. very well satisfied compared to the previous TomToms. Brian

Nice unit but supplied with out of date mapping. Updating wasn't very straightforward as latest map from Route 66 was too large for the SD card, meaning I had to upgrade the card to 4MB. Software not very intuitive. RAC support very helpful.

My First Sat Nav PHEWW!,
By
This review is from: RAC 315 Europe Satellite Navigation - EU Mapping, 4.3" Touch Screen (Electronics)
This was my first Sat Nav, I am a bit of a computer geek and have many desktops, laptops, netbooks around the house, I have experience of many operating systems dating back 15 yrs, this unit took me several days to sus out,
( heaven help Micky Mugg ) who has just bought a computer, Just from plugging it in to my computer I was required to install all manner of Microsoft upgrades and strangely the instructions told me to ignore Microsoft's warnings about problems, then the first try to update the two year old map/speed camera data that I attempted resulted in the supplied memory card not having any space left!, I bought a bigger card copied the existing files over to this and put it in the machine!, ( No ) I had to reinstall the contents of the backup cd to the bigger card and start over, from my experience to get the best and up to date performance from this unit, it is not for a novice computer user, it should come with a bigger capacity memory card and a warning that a skip load of microsoft programs need to be installed to use it to it's full , it now works ok, it took me 2 hrs to show my wife how to use it, These days this should not be so. I could only recommend this to expert computer users with plenty of time on their hands to set it up A year down the line , Last night I plugged this into a Winsoze machine, another huge update procedure this has left the machine with a non functioning speed camera situation,Machine says data needs a key , computer says it is unlocked , what a time Vampire this is!! . I am now faced with mails and calls to help lines,I am patient but this has been hard work and not in my experience a good buy
