The Holy Qur'an (also known as The Koran) is the sacred book of Islam. It is the word of God whose truth was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel over a period of 23 years. As it was revealed, so it was committed to memory by his companions, though written copies were also made by literate believers during the lifetime of the Prophet. The first full compilation was by Abu Bakar, the first Caliph, and it was then recompiled in the original dialect by the third Caliph Uthman, after the best reciters had fallen in battle. Muslims believe that the truths of The Holy Qur'an are fully and authentically revealed only in the original classical Arabic. However, as the influence of Islam grows and spreads to the modern world, it is recognised that translation is an important element in introducing and explaining Islam to a wider audience. This translation, by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, is considered to be the most faithful rendering available in English.

This translation of the Quran is reasonably accurate and the English is not too bad. The book however does not place the English alongside the original Arabic as is the normal custom and therefore cannot give the true feel of the Quran as it was originally written. It is however a good version of the Quran for none Muslim students of Islam as the meaning of the Quran can easily be obtained from it whilst at the same time it is cheap

I bought this version of The Holy Qu,ran , as I am not a muslim, but wanted to know more about islam. I am still reading it, a bit at a time, like the Bible it is not a book you rush through, and there are parts I do not understand, but I am told by Muslim friends that is one of the better english translations out.some of them have the same copy.

I got it to analyze and I found it very hard to do so as the language of the book is very old. I know it is a perfect translation but it was such maybe 80 years ago. Such words as YOU YOURS etc could be used as they are now, not as they were back then. For nowadays user I would advise to look for any modern version.

Little positve, but read it to understand the drive behind Islam.
I fail to see what non-Muslims can really get from reading this book, other than an understanding of what is driving the Islamic world. Read more

This is by far the best translation.
Abdullah Yusuf Ali gives us a clear comprehensive translation of God's Word. Abdullah clearly shows to his readers that God's Word is True and Just, Compassionate and Merciful. Read more
