Product Description

Born out of a long collaborative history, the great chemistry of Denver-based trumpeter Ron Miles and guitarist Bill Frisell is amply documented on a number of Frisell recordings and their sublime duet album Heaven from 2002. Joined by master drummer Brian Blade, they teamed up again in 2010 and 2011 under Ron's leadership for a few select concerts in Denver and Boulder, and cut a record entitled Quiver, the album features some of the most inspired music these three players have made in recent years. Primarily featuring Miles's own tunes, the recording also includes interpretations of Duke Ellington and Henry Mancini compositions, as well as a wonderful song first recorded by Bix Beiderbecke and Bing Crosby in 1929, "There Ain't No Sweet Man That's Worth the Salt of My Tears."

Gem of an album from the 'should be better known' jazz trumpeter. Miles has a 'less is more' approach on this album.

Frisell is in soft / abstract rather than rock-god mode in this session, and drummer Blade is a revelation - distinctive and creative. Interesting to compare his approach with the fabled Lovano / Frisell / Motian bass-less trio...

The album has a quite particular feel - spacious, folky melodies, but knotty at the same time, with great jazz chops throughout. Well worth seeking out...

GENTLE,POWERFUL AND PASSIONATE 21 Nov. 2012
By Manuel Grosso Galvan - Published on Amazon.com

Each new music from Ron Miles is a gift, a precious gift. Ron Miles is a special trumpets, with a very sophisticated sound, at first sigh look very simple but is more complicated that this. In tis CD Ron Miles take with him a two incredible musician; Bill Frisell and Brian Blade. They make since years the same type of jazz, a perfect blend of contemporary jazz, same blues roots, a little of folk sound and, why not?, classical standard. In this opportunity all the composition are from Miles except one by Fred Fisher, other from Duke Ellintong, and a fantastic version of "Days of Wine and Roses" from the great Mancini. 3 themes are recorded live and the rest in studio. Anyway the CD is fastanstic, there is something magic in the sound and, more important, in the silence. Is brilliant and also stoic. A great new album from Ron Miles, Bill Frisell and Brian Blade. Absolutely elegant and fresh.

PS. Hear the album "Heaven". Is a duets between Ron Miles and BIll Frisell, edited 10 years ago ana is the perfect complement of this one

Masters at work 29 Jan. 2013

While Bill Frisell and Brian Blade are well known master improvisers, Ron Miles is not, but should be. His sensitive work with Bill Frisell is reason enough to get this recording, and the interplay here is beautiful.

Ron Miles shines. 18 Nov. 2012

I first heard of Ron Miles through Bill Frisell's recordings. This trio with Bill and Brian Blade is wonderful. Get it.

I've been having Paul Motian withdrawals for over a year now. There will never be another. Mr. Blades helps.

Several thousand stars for these guys.
