Kimmo Pohjonen is rightly renowned for his innovative approaches to music through his accordion playing in many guises. Anyone who saw his Earth Machine Music tour in the UK last year will know what I mean. But having been addicted to KTU's first album 8 Armed Monkey this new offering was eagerly awaited. Live performance in Helsinki last September suggested that something was afoot - how can three musicians make such a soundscape? What it boils down to is professionalism - in addition to KP both Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto in their own ways provide top muscianship. Pat Mastelotto has that rare ability in some drummers to give such clear percussive delivery that you know he is in complete control of his instrument. There are some excellent pieces on this album including the ethereal Miasmaa but the best moment has to be Kataklasm: Trey Gunn's Warr guitar break WOW! - my stereo doesn't do enough volume to give it its due.

Bristling with pure brilliance, Gunn, Mastelotto and Pohjonen's new release is simply mesmerisingly wonderful...Missed 8 Armed Monkey? Then make sure you catch Quiver, once caught the only place you will drop it is on your player. Not a duff track on this CD,

Kimmo Pohjonen working together with King Crimson's rhythm section, you can't go wrong there. All three wizard in their own field. A guitar that does not sound like a guitar. An accordion that sounds like an organ once, like a bagpipe next. And as accordion, too.
After an ambient opening, staccato rhythms come head-on. This sets the mood for the album with four tracks penned by Pohjonen, the rest between the band. Some have politely distorted guitar, Wasabi Fields is laid-back and Jacaranda sounds like KC from Discipline-years; a field-day for Pat Mastelotto. The closing Snow Reader is nearly ambient again. And in between is everything from sonic attacks to even experimental, but mostly an up-tempo mix, all carrying the same signature. Incredible and original stuff!

Wow, what a great album! It contains a great mix of style and energy, very enjoyable. "Wasabi Fields" is such a beautiful song, love it."Kataklasm" is a great rocker and I enjoyed the math of "Miasmaa". Highly recommended for the adventurous music lover. Cheers!
