More About the Author

A New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USAToday bestselling author, Mary Jo Putney was born in Upstate New York with a reading addiction, a condition for which there is no known cure. Her entire romance writing career is an accidental byproduct of buying a computer for other purposes.

Her novels are known for psychological depth and intensity and include historical and contemporary romance, fantasy, and young adult fantasy. Winner of numerous writing awards, including two RITAs and two Romantic Times Career Achievement awards, she has five times had books listed among the Library Journal's top five romances of the year, and three times had books among the top ten romances of Booklist, the magazine of the American Library Association.

Her favorite reading is great stories, but in a pinch she'll settle for the backs of cereal boxes. She's delighted that e-publishing can now make available books that have been out of print.

Review Courtesy of April Hollingworth

This is the 6th book in The Lost Lords series but can be read as a standalone. Mary Jo Putney brings you into the world of danger and intrigue. Where love once lost is a battle to be regained. I adored this book.

Opening Scene:

James, Lord Kirkland, owned a shipping fleet and half a fashionable London gaming house, and was a darkly effective spymaster in the shadow war between Britain and Napoleon’s France.

The Review:

Burning with fever, attacked and left in an ally, James is rescued and brought to a clinic, a clinic his estranged wife of ten years helps run. Shocked to find him in such a state, Laurel helps him and once again the burning passion inside them for each other sparks. After a passionate night consequences that cannot be ignored unite them once more. But with enemies closing in, the past of their separation not healed, is it too late for a second or is their great love for one another too broken to ever heal?

Notable Scene:

“Oh, God, Laurel!” He caught her around the waist and pulled her onto the table beside him in a crushing embrace. “I had the most ghastly dreams that I’d lost you. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find you.” His grip tightened as he said in a hoarse whisper, “You were gone and I was so afraid…”
She gasped, shocked by being held full length against his barely clothed body. She knew she should break free, but the sheer physical rightness of being in his arms paralyzed her.
Even more shocking was the raw emotion and need in his voice. When she’d left him, he’d seemed cool and uncaring, as if relieved that she’d no longer require time and attention. He’d shown no signs of pain.

I skimmed most of this book because, unfortunately , I found it beyond irritating. It was impossible to have any empathy with the heroine who was impossibly self righteous and much to perfect. I'm just sorry that I wasted my money buying it.

Found this boring and I don't think I've ever read a book where the heroine annoyed me quite so much. She was written as a kind of Angel who could do no wrong. Wish I hadn't spent money on this book.
