Product Description

Book Description

You don't have to travel far in the world to realise there's nowhere remotely like this country.

Whether it's the peculiar place names, our eccentric events or our curious collectors, the truth is this modest island has more idiosyncrasies per square inch that any other nation.

Which is where this little volume comes in. It gives a glimpse into the curious richness this island possesses. It cocks an eye to the abundance of quirk all around us.

Read it. You just couldn't make it up.

Great book 13 July 2004
Yeah this book has loads about strange places in Britain and weird things that Brits get up to. Great read and a really cool cover and photos too. I'm lovin' it.

What a fab book. 13 July 2004
This book was a real surprise find. I originally read about it in The Scotsman and found it on Amazon. It is a funny, unusual and beautiful book - outlining many wonderful things, places and rituals in Britain. I love the "flock wallpaper" cover, as well as the bits about Brits' unusual love afair with cones and garden gnomes, and learning about some of the quirkier geographical names such as "Wet Wang", Ugley and Six Mile Bottom. For foreigners trying to find out about British culture, they should look no further than this book, which summs up rather nicely why Britain is such a great and strange place to live.
