If you enjoy a challenge - and applique in abundance, then this could be just what you're looking for. These designs are so colourful and full of movement that they make your eyes pop! The variety ranges from the complex pickle dish on the front cover, a Dresden plate with dots,a vibrant plate style which somehow reminds me of records (can't account for it)and another sing out loud scrappy circle in three tiers; and then there's the whirlygig - for those who've seen the Ipcress file - the girls have captured it! These quilts could decimate your scrap box and have you buying dark glasses to wear for your sewing. I love Becky and Linda's applique designs anyway, but these are certainly the most exciting quilts they've produced yet. Instructions are, as usual, excellent. The patterns are on pull outs at the back, some paper piecing is involved, fusible needleturn and cutaway applique, some curved piecing required and lots of enthusiasm is recommended. Love the book!

Excellent! A+ 20 April 2005

Ms. Goldsmith and Ms. Jenkins have done it again! If you've enjoyed their previous books about quilting and applique, you'll enjoy this one too! There are a variety of designs; just looking at them gives me ideas for many different types of quilts everything from the usual bright, sparkly, fun Piece O' Cake color ways to romantic, folk, traditional and contemporary.

Most of the designs in this book have curved piecing, which the authors give clear and concise directions to help you. Many of the patterns in the book also have paper piecing sections. Though, previous knowledge of either Piece O' Cake designs or previous knowledge of paper piecing/curves may be helpful they are not a prerequisite. An adventurous beginner could easily dive right into any of the patterns without difficulty. The authors have excellent directions for all of the various techniques involved in all of the quilts in the book.

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves Piece O' Cake designs, anyone interested in curved piecing, applique, paper piecing, or anyone with a sense of adventure. A+

Beautiful Designs, Could Have Used More Detailed Instructions 4 Jun 2006
By Globe Trotter - Published on Amazon.com

I was so inspired by the quilt patterns in this book and have enjoyed seeing Piece O' Cake designs evolve into ever more creative and inspiring quilt patterns with applique. After studying all the techniques for applique and giving my hand a try at it, I felt confident that I was ready to take on the challenge of some of their more advanced quilt projects. While I absolutely love the designs, I found some problems with the instructions and the templates for the Dresdon Dots pattern. My favorite quilt store once said to me that this is a common problem and that a good teacher is really a good editor. After a few rounds of trial and error I finally managed to figure out how to get things just right ([...] It would have been so helpful if there were more step by step directions, and close-up photos of finished blocks. If you haven't taken on the challenge of a double wedding ring quilt or something like a dresdan plate quilt, you might need to study these techniques first through a class or another book that focuses more in depth on construction techniques. For the publisher (C&T Publishing), I think it would be enormously helpful to have their instructions kitchen tested to make sure they are clear to the reader. Quilting is a very expensive art form, and I know more then one quilter that has purchased fabric, books, and supplies, only to wind up in total frustration at not being able to accomplish the desired results, due to editorial errors, ommissions, and so on.
