A good foundation course for budding quilters and the spiral-bound format makes it convenient to place alongside the sewing machine.
--Sewing World Magazine, August Sewing World Magazine, August 2011

Product Description

Written with the absolute beginner in mind, this book teaches all the basics for machine quilting with step-by-step instructions and photographs. Quilting skills are learned by working on projects, beginning with something very easy and getting progressively more difficult as the reader works through the book. New skills are explored in depth as they are introduced. The introductory section covers all the basics of quilting-choosing fabric, quick cutting techniques, sewing seams, completing a quilt top, layering and basting, and both hand and machine quilting methods-making this the most comprehensive beginner's book available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book 9 Aug 2012
By Zebedee
Format:Spiral-bound
If you wish to take up quilting/patchwork this is an excellent book. There are clear instructions for the projects which start with simple projects and then more complex ones.

The most useful thing about this book is that it comes with a DVD which enables you to look at how things are done again and again.

I highly recommend this book.

I adore this quilting book, it is clear and concise and well bounded. This book was well packaged and arrived well on time. I have to say I love books that are binded in this way and with a high gloss feel. I would recommend this book to all beginners in quilting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making it easy for a 70 year old novice male. 15 Jun 2011
By One who feeds the birds. - Published on Amazon.com

Never having sewn a stitch prior to this book and now I'm on my way to putting a quilt together. This book condenses years of sewing experience into simple to follow visual and easily understood written directions. I'm finding the quilting process to be almost meditative as I move along the learning curve. Put life's struggles aside for a while and devote some time to making quilts.

2.0 out of 5 stars sorry, but disappointing 5 Oct 2013
By team - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Spiral-bound
I was hoping this would be my go-to book, but I'm disappointed.
I'm a beginner quilter...not new to sewing, but new to quilting. This book offered about 30-40 pages of good information, including the very basic information about the sewing machine, how to thread it, etc. It's great to be inclusive to all levels of sewers, and to start from the very ground up. I can skip the parts that I already know. But I think it could have offered more instruction, for example, in how to put pieces together, maybe a section on how to fix problems (if something goes wrong, how to fix it, etc) and maybe a FAQ section.
The last 3/4 of the book is patterns, and I see that there is continued instruction and tips throughout the patterns, but I was really hoping for a very complete "manual", and I don't think this is it. Will have to keep looking.

This Book is chalk full of wonderful easy to understand information on what you will need to start quilting. I like how this book is design to lay out flat with full pictures along with the tools you will need to get started. This book comes with a 45 minute CD that shows projects and techniques. I would buy this book again to give as a gift and I would recommend it highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars The book itself 15 Jun 2013
By Ruth Spencer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
The book itself will probably be a good tool. I am just learning how to quilt. However, the DVD that came with the book is stuck to the inside sleeve. I may try to contact the manufacturer.I don't know if that will get me anywhere. As I said, though, the book has a lot of good info that I will use in my adventure to learn how to quilt.
