"QUILTED MEMORIES" intends to teach non-artists how to make art quilts. Various techniques are explained with an emphasis placed on foto imagery and tips on how to transfer fotos onto fabric for quilt blocks. However, it's not the text but the artworks of the author and various other fabric artists that gives substance to this book.
"QUILTED MEMORIES" reflects the interest in a sort of Neo-Domestic art & craft movement heavily sustained by numerous bloggers. In fact, the author of "QUILTED MEMORIES" maintains the well-visited "LalasLand" site and blog.
In praise of hands.
A number of women have discovered the transcendental state one can obtain simply by working with their hands. Focused on what one is doing, craftmaking is like active meditation. The hand's motion mellows one's thoughts and shifts brainwaves into theta. In other words, making art makes us happy.
