Product Description

Review

"Especially heartwarming are the letters included from recipients of these wonderful quilts and their families, as well as notes from those whose lives have been enriched by using their talents to brighten the spirits of children in crisis." --"Machine Quilting Unlimited" "The quilts they [Balagna and Babbitt] gathered together for the book include ones with interactive designs that double as game boards or have pockets for storing toys. Some are crazy quilted, paper pieced, or appliqued; others stitch up quickly with strip piecing or precuts. The authors have also included quilts that make perfect guild or group activities." --"Quilter Magazine" "Each quilt project has its own chapter. There is a gorgeous full color photograph of the quilting project featured along with a detailed list of supplies and directions for assembly. Also included are diagrams and photographs to explain the quilting process. Each project also has a guide to show how difficult the quilt is to make. I found this very helpful since I am still a beginner. I love reading the stories of the people who made the quilt and who it was gifted to. The quilts are really so much more than simple quilts. There are some that are game boards or have windows or pockets that open up. There are quilts with signature blocks sewn onto them that make them a wonderful keepsake." --BlogCritics.org

About the Author

Authors Carol Babbitt (National President of Project Linus) and Mary Balagna (Vice President) direct and orchestrate the activities of the Project Linus organisation and individual chapters. Both have been involved with the organisation since 1998 and maintain a very busy Central Illinois chapter. Project Linus is a nonprofit organisation that brings handmade blankets to children in need. Since 1995, the organisation has grown to 400 chapters nationally (in all 50 states) and volunteers have made and donated more than four million quilts. Project Linus is well-known and much loved among the quilting community and beyond, and has received coverage in Parade, People, Reader's Digest, Family Circle, Ladies Home Journal, Quiltmaker, Quilters Newsletter, Guidepost, Parents Magazine, Real Simple, Woman's Day and on the NBC Nightly News, Today Show and Oprah.

I am absolutely in love with this book. It is the very best quilting book I have ever purchased, I would give it twenty stars if I could. Beautifully written and explained in the easiest terms that I as a novice quilter can understand so well. Well done to the authors a fantastic book and deserves a lot of credit for a worthwhile cause that the book was published for.

I was interested to learn about this project having discovered a local group making quilts for the charity. The book illustrates well so simple and quick designs for children. The designs are colourful and charming and encourage participation in the project.

This is a really lovely book, especially as the quilts are designed to make a child's life a happier one. There are some fairly easy projects - very colourful and not too big. Make a quilt to cheer up a child and make yourself feel good.
