Review

All the basic steps are illustrated so you can master paper quilling techniques such as closed coils, open coils, eccentric coils, huskings, filigree and fringing. Having mastered these techniques you can then go on to the five delighful projects all featuring native British wild flowers such as speedwell, bluebell and lesser celandine. --Cake Craft & Decoration, April 08

Nobody knows papercrafts quite like Janet Wilson, and here she is showing how to quill some beautiful wild flowers. This popular papercraft shows their delicate beauty to great advantage, and if you thought that this craft was just for decorating cards then think again. I don t own a rotating craft table, but it is nice to be told that it is a non-essential item, while ordinary things such as pins, PVA glue and cocktail sticks are far more useful. I was impressed by the way that Ms Wilson mentions what it is necessary to own and what is optional - not enough craft books make this important distinction. In true Search Press style this is a book filled with colorful photographic staged diagrams, showing beginners (and anybody else) how to make a whole range of quilled shapes, fringing and those attractive huskings. This is the first book that shows exactly how these are made in plenty of easy stages, proving that not only beginners would find this book useful to own. The projects are of the type too that would appeal to a range of abilities - broken down into simple steps, but attractive and impressive enough to look at to tempt more advanced crafters. Decorate boxes, frames, cards, paperweights and even a memo board with these lovely motifs, but don t expect to find patterns for making boxes. All the items are pre-purchased blanks, so a trip to a craft store or the Search Press website for a suppliers list is in order if you want to do more than just cards. Another special touch is the facts about each flower, and a reminder that too many of them are endangered. Another one for the keeper shelf! --Rachel Hyde, MyShelf.com

If you've tried quilling, caught the bug and now want to move on to more challenging projects, this is the book for you. There are five designs to choose from, each featuring quilled wild flowers. Coil beautiful Bluebells or Scarlet Pimpernells, all from tiny strips of paper. Each flower has its own chapter, and you can make cards, bags and paperweights with the design. There's a detailed guide at the front of the book on how to create every petal and part of the flowers and leaves, so you'll quickly graduate from curious about quilling to paper coiling pro! --Papercraft Inspirations, June 08

A cork quilling board I recommend you make a clear plastic sleeve to go over your quilling board; this enables you to slip the pattern under the plastic and glue the shapes or designs together on top of it. Read the first page

Quilled Wild Flowers 27 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
Excellent book as far as it goes but certainly not comprehensive with only 5 flowers included. A lot of very basic information for beginners but 5 flowers do not make a great deal for more experienced quillers to get their teeth into. Some patterns for some other flowers would have improved the book even if there were no instructions to go with the patterns. Even some suggestions on how to make your own patterns or any ideas on how to take it further.

Quilled Wild Flowers has excellent photography which illustrates beginning steps and completed designs. In addition to wild flowers, there is a perfect butterfly design and ideas for decorating gift bags and small boxes. Lots of ideas for a 48 page book!

Quilled Wild Flowers 23 Feb 2009

For me this is an ok book. If you are still learning to quill, this book will do the job just fine. But if you are looking for a more challenging design. This probably not the book you are looking for.
