About Bose

Dedication to research and excellence has been the Bose approach to better sound since Dr. Amar G. Bose founded the company in 1964. Ever since then, Bose engineers have focused on creating better technology. You'll find that focus exemplified in Bose® QuietComfort® 3 headphones.

About The Product

Bose-own technology offers award-winning audio from headphones that bring you listening pleasure no matter where you are. Get more from your music and lose the distractions.

You have to hear it to believe it

You will perceive a significant reduction in engine noise on your next airplane trip as soon as you switch on your QuietComfort® 3 headphones. Just plug the cable into your portable device or the in-flight media system to enjoy quality sound.

You will perceive a significant reduction in engine noise on your next airplane trip as soon as you switch on your QuietComfort® 3 headphones. Just plug the cable into your portable device or the in-flight media system to enjoy quality sound.

It’s impossible to cancel out all background noise, but the QuietComfort® 3 headphones do make it possible to get the most out of any audio experience.

Performance you can count on

Bose Acoustic Noise Cancelling technology electronically pinpoints, and then significantly lessens ambient noise, while maintaining the sound or quiet you crave. Bose-own audio reproduction technology and signal processing deliver natural sound across the entire audio spectrum – including full deep notes – from headphones that are quite small and lightweight.

Once the QuietComfort® 3 headphones have rid you of most of the surrounding noise, you’ll really start noticing the excellent audio produced by these headphones. In fact, you may very well notice details in your favourite songs that you've never heard before. And the softly padded fit of the ear cups are not only easy on your ears, but let you enjoy your music for hours.

Perfect travel accompaniment

A handy wall charger and rechargeable lithium-ion battery are included. The fully charged battery will give you approximately 25 hours of use and will last for about 500 charging cycles. The QuietComfort® 3 headphones also come with a sleek protective carry case and an airline adapter plug. The ear cups are flat-folding to make storage easier.

Features

Bose-own Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphone technology electronically identifies and reduces noise, while preserving the sound or quiet you crave. The headphones have a compact on-ear design with padded cushioning that is not only comfortable, but also creates an all-important acoustic seal that reduces noise even more. Proprietary TriPort® acoustic headphone structure has small vents in the ear cups that make it possible to create a tonally-balanced sound performance ? with full low notes ? from moderately small and lightweight headphones. The frequency response of the headphones is tuned electronically using active equalisation technology for a marvellous sound performance. Bose’s rechargeable lithium-ion battery will provide approximately 25 hours of use per charge. A handy wall-socket charger also comes with the headphones. The detachable audio cable is handier to use than a normal Y-cable. Flat-folding ear cups swivel 90 degrees for convenient transportation and storage. The slim carrying case protects the headphones and accessories when you’re on the go.

What's in the box

  • QuietComfort® 3 headphones
  • battery charger
  • 2 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries

5.0 out of 5 stars Very, very good 27 Sep 2011
I bought these to improve my chances of sleeping on flights and long train journeys. Not only do they do that, but the sound quality (thanks to both the clarity of reproduction and the noise cancelling feature) is so good that I've found myself wearing them around the house when there isn't much background noise to begin with.

Like all noise cancelling headphones, they are most effective against constant sound of relatively low frequency (eg. aircraft engine noise). Having previously owned a pair of noise cancelling cans from another major brand, and tried a few more in store, I can say that the suppression of background noise is more effective than I've seen elsewhere. This is particularly impressive when you consider that these are 'on-ear' not, 'over-ear' headphones; they are both smaller and more comfortable than most of the alternatives, yet seem to work better.

The carry case is good, provides space to carry the charger as well, and has a little pocket in the back to take leads, and maybe your ipod if you have a small one. My one gripe is that they don't (unlike some, cheaper brands) give you a spare signal lead, so if you lose or damage the lead supplied you have to buy another at a truly staggering price from Bose.

They have two obvious drawbacks; the fact that they don't pass the signal through without power, and the proprietary Li-Ion battery pack that has to be charged from the mains. These mean that when the battery runs down you can't use them, and you have to wait to charge the battery rather than just replacing it with a fresh one. In practice, I don't think these are very significant disadvantages; Never have I had a flight long enough to run the battery down, and it re-charges quite quickly anyway.

In summary : Well worth the money. Better, smaller and more comfortable than the alternatives I've tried.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 17 Oct 2011

These headphones are very comfy, and cracking quality for audio. Battery lasts ages and the noice cancelling is a dream whether it be in the house, office or on the move.

Quite pricey but worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars How to Sleep on a Plane :) 1 Aug 2011
I've had these for around 2 years now and although they are very, very well looked after I have had absolutely no problem with them. They are a comfortable fit and the sound (to some ears) is a tad bass heavy but beautifully crisp at the same time. The noise cancelling effect has to be heard to be believed, I often use these while using gardening equipment (Lawn mower, strimmer, etc. the worst of which being a hedge trimmer which comes with a 70dB sound warning) and still rarely have to turn the volume on my iPhone beyond half way.
Where these really come into play however are on flights... Traditionally I have never been able to sleep on a plane but with the QC3s I just load up some chilled music (or sometimes just run the white noise app on my phone) and I'm asleep within minutes. The only issue I have is that I have to wait until we're airborne before I can use them and switch them off when the seat belt sign comes back on before landing!). Watching movies on flights becomes relaxing as opposed to previously straining to hear - you may find that you want to save the soundtrack in a higher quality than you would normally, these will really pick up the quality (or lack of).
I have found some cons that are worthy of a mention. The complete lack of external sound/feedback can cause you to feel a bit dizzy/nauseous when in quiet situations and the reliance on battery power can be annoying as sometimes I'd like to listen to music without the noise cancelling effect which limits the amount of times I use them. Overall however for headphones that can cost more than most mp3 players (I was lucky to get a bonus that stretched as far) if you have the money and fly a lot, for the money, you should be over the moon.
