From the Author

A Guide to Quicken AND Personal Financial Management
When I was contracted to write this Official Guide to Quicken 99, I was asked to make the book much more than just a guide to the Quicken 99 software. The folks at Intuit and Osborne/McGraw-Hill wanted a book that would show people how Quicken 99 can help them take control of their personal finances, save time, save money, and make smart financial decisions. I think I did a good job delivering what they wanted. Not only does the book provide illustrated, step-by-step instructions for completing basic and advanced tasks with Quicken 99, but it includes time- and money-saving tips and information to help readers make informed financial decisions. For example, the chapter about buying a home or car explains what kinds of loans are available, offers resources for getting up-to-date rates, and provides worksheets readers can use to compare loan deals. The book complements the software's Getting Started Guide and excellent online help, providing additional, useful information that all Quicken users can benefit from.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful but basic! 10 Jan 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book is very good for first time and intermediate users of Quicken. However if you are looking for advanced help with Quicken, this book may not get you there. Most likely in those cases you should refer to Quickens on line or pay for phone assisted service. This book is still useful and always would be good to have around has a reference guide. It is approved by Quicken and does cover virtually all facets of Quicken. And for the price, you can't lose. Be aware this book is Windows based and NOT MAC. Some things are the same between both operating systems, but most things are not.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not detailed enough when needed. 25 Mar 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
As a new user to Quicken, I could figure out enough of the basics using on-line help. When I wanted more detailed info on tracking investments, the book basically mirrored the on-line help. And neither one could give me the answer. Other topics were better though. One thumb down.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but not great 29 Nov 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
If you are new to financial management software, this book explains how to start from scratch with Quicken 99. If you are a previous Quicken user or even MYM like me, there isn't much here. Quicken's on line help gave me 3 answers to every 1 that I got from this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quicken 99 The Official Guide 29 Dec 1999
By Richard J. Leskovec - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is good for basic stuff, but it can also be obtained with the help menus. I wanted a good in depth technical source that I could read with as well as away from the computer. Most of the book is OK in the first half. But, five chapters on non Quicken specifics like how to buy Insurance, How to buy a House and car, how to Invest and plan for retirement and how to save money are not what I bought this book for. I already know all that stuff. I wanted a real in depth technical guide, which is what I thought this "Official Guide" would be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mismatch - Quicken 99 Guide and Quicken 2000 28 Nov 1999
By Ed Price - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Perhaps I made mistake thinking I could use the Quicken 99 Guide to help install Quicken 2000. I wish I could be proven wrong as I found the instructions very pedestrian on top of lacking in detail for handling error messages and how to remove the data from previous versions.
Oh but that MYM DOS 12 wasn't doomed by Y2K
