Mine is only a 3-person business but this looks as though it will be worth every penny and more, potentially enabling me to save a lot of money on accountancy fees. I winced at the thought of getting to grips with it but needn't have.
The software installed easily and ran well (on a fairly high-spec PC with i7 processor and 8GB RAM).
Cambridge Ian has written a fantastically comprehensive review and his experience means he is in a much better position to comment in detail than I. His advice on payroll was particularly welcome. Having tried the software, read his review and tried it again, I can only agree with all he says, adding that, even as a non-accountant, I found QuickBooks made life about as painless for me as it possibly could, the SetUp Wizard getting me off to a gentle start. I almost enjoyed myself. Perhaps it was just relief!
OK, I'm a mathematician by training and an IT Consultant by profession, so perhaps better placed to deal with accounts than some, but I felt that anyone who could teach themselves to get the best out of, say, Excel, could work with QuickBooks. It seems flexible and versatile. The tutorials and tips are well-designed and highly effective. Intuit isn't wrong in saying "no accounting knowledge necessary".
I haven't, so far, been able to dig as deep as I'd like, but have gone far enough to feel sure that QuickBooks will more than meet my needs. The Reporting module, for example, is impressive in its breadth and ease of use, and the Lead Centre provides what looks like a more-than-adequate, integrated CRM capability.
It may take a little time for me to become entirely confident, but I can see that Quickbooks could enable me to loosen the tie with my accountant or even dispense with his services. Whether I need the Premier version is another matter, but I'm very pleased to have it and am going to make very good use of it; if you're not sure yourself, there is an excellent comparison chart and guided decision process on Intuit's website.
Intuit...this is so good that I'll almost forgive you for abandoning Quicken in the UK!
