About the Author

Bonnie Biafore has always been a zealous planner, whether setting up software demos, cooking gourmet meals, or scheduling a vacation to test the waters of spontaneity. Ironically, fate, not planning, turned this obsession into a career as a project manager. When she isn't managing projects for clients, Bonnie writes about project management, small business accounting, personal finance, investing, and technology. She's also branching out into other "dry" topics with articles for the Wine Enthusiast. As an engineer, she's fascinated by how things work and how to make things work better. She has a knack for mincing dry subjects like accounting and project management into easy to understand morsels and then spices them to perfection with her warped sense of humor.

Bonnie is the award-wining author of more than a dozen books including Quicken 2009: The Missing Manual, QuickBooks 2009: The Missing Manual, Project 2007: The Missing Manual, the Better Investing Stock Selection Handbook (which won an APEX Award of Distinction), Online Investing Hacks, and On Time! On Track! On Target!. She also writes regularly about financial topics for Better Investing bankrate.com and interest.com. When unshackled from her computer, she hikes in the mountains, cycles, rehabilitates horses, cooks gourmet food, and, most importantly, tries saying no to additional work assignments.

Have used Intuits' Quicken for many years, both for personal expenses and income and when running my small company, and found it extremely at that time very useful: however, being something of a nit-picker and with Quicken effectively effectively vacated the shelves in the U.K. decided on QuickBooks for a change, finding out in the process why it is preferred by Accountants and others. What proved also most useful for me was the excellent advice that Bonnie offered in setting things up, easing somewhat the pressures on those new to accountancy practices and helping bestow a modicum of self-confidence in situations where one might otherwise tend to feel a trifle lost and confused.

Would on the basis of my personal acquaintance certainly reccomend putting it on any short-list you may be preparing.

This book is OK for a point of reference but it is for the american market which is a little annoying - much like the software itself really

Not as basic as "For Dummies" books, but still a good reference 13 Dec. 2009
By WOOHOO - Published on Amazon.com

As a Quickbooks first-timer, I needed something because I was a little confused and frustrated. This book is a good reference book for those times when I just couldn't figure it out on my own. It is similiar to the actual Quickbooks Help option that is included with the program. It is NOT as basic as the "For Dummies" books, however.

Wow ... everything you need to know 1 April 2010

I found the QB2010 program VERY complicated and not terribly intuitive, but this book really helped. I was able to learn the basics very quickly and then use it as a reference to look up specific tasks. The index is very complete. I can't compare it to other books about QB2010 since I've never used anything else, but I can't imagine I'd need anything else anyway.

The screenshots were good, too -- large enough to see clearly.

Does not cover Quickbooks for Mac 22 Mar. 2010
By J. Roberts - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Just purchased Quickbooks for Mac program and wanted a reference book to assist in the learning curve, so I purchased "The Missing Manual".

The one issue I have is the book as featured on Amazon does not indicate it only covers Quickbooks for Windows. The book I received has a different cover, one that has an oval orange colored graphic to the left of the dog's tail stating "Covers QuickBooks for Windows". On page 4 of the book it states "Warning: QuickBooks for Mac differs significantly from the Windows version, and unfortunately you won't find help with that version of the program in this book."

It would be nice to know that before I invested in the book. I suppose I will get some benefit from the book in terms of concepts, but I will still have to figure out how to use the Mac version on my own.

I cannot understand why Mac users are constantly short changed by companies that cobble a Mac version together and then not support it with quality manuals. Even the "official" QuickBooks manual from Intuit states it only covers QuickBooks Pro.

Best Book Available! 14 May 2010

This book explains things with the perspective of YOU the business person in mind. Very clear, very detailed, accurate, organized, and loaded with EVERYTHING you need to know from getting started to dealing with payroll, to finishing out the year with closing entries and taxes. I recommend this book to anyone learning quickbooks, and as supplement for anyone who already uses quickbooks, but would like to learn more. In my opinion, it is the best out there for your money.

Not recommended for beginners!!!!!!!! 25 Oct. 2010
By jairo velasquez - Published on Amazon.com

If you don't know anything about setting up the accounts, don't buy this textbook. It explains about the accounts in general such as petty cash but it doesn't explain how or where you will be recording the expenses of petty cash. This is just one example of many. There is another thing; it doesn't cover anything about depreciation which I believe is one important topic to be mentioned on this textbook. And finally, the topics are all mixed up. It brings you back and forward with the page numbers. All topics are not covered in one page only; they are divided in many parts all over the book. It's very disappointing!!!
