"Publishers Kogan Page have an enviable track record of putting together excellent quick start guides. This one is no exception as Dr Mark Williams breaks down a seemingly complex subject to the basics. In fact he manages to completely demystify it with an easy to follow introduction, benefits and risks sections and case studies. For this reason, I'd recommend this book to just about anybody."

Excellent introduction,
By Phil Strother (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Quick Start Guide to Cloud Computing: Moving Your Business into the Cloud (New Tools for Business) (Paperback)
A great introduction to the concepts of cloud computing and the use your business may make of it. Assumes no prior knowledge at all (other than basic familiarity with computers - but importantly from the perspective of a business that uses them, not that of an infrastructure technician). Will guide you through the maze of jargon and enable you to make sensible decisions about how and what to explore further. The most important aspect of the book for me was the balanced perspective - Dr Williams does not pretend that cloud computing will solve all your business issues, but instead presents both the upsides and the hard questions you should be asking your provider before you make any commitments. All in all an accessible, no-nonsense introduction which may not be the last thing you read on cloud computing, but is an excellent place to start.

This review is from: A Quick Start Guide to Cloud Computing: Moving Your Business into the Cloud (New Tools for Business) (Paperback)
A fantastic quick-start guide for maximising the potential of the Cloud and taking your business into the 21st Century. I'm in the early stages of starting my own business venture and there's a wealth of options out there for managing your business using online tools, platforms and storage. Understandng it all can be a real chore but "A Quick Start Guide..." distills it all down into 7 simple chapters that cut through the jargon and explain things in layman's terms (there's even a handy glossary - great for non-techies like me!). Of particular use was the chapter on "Moving into the cloud" - a straightforward 5-step guide that walks you through the key considerations for moving into a public cloud.A cracking book for anyone entering the Cloud, whether your business is well established or you're just starting out.

This is a good overview of the cloud and what to look for in SaaS, IaaS and PaaS. Some good advice and a nice glossary of terms at the end. Great background which will stimulate further research and even some action.
