I'm always on the lookout for something a little different so when this title from Bloomsbury landed I knew that I had something special. The story has a very Indian/African feel to it and with colourful characters, a moralistic story alongside some magical artwork, it was a title that I know is going to enthuse as well as impress my young nephews. Personally I loved the antics of PolePole and with a heroic young elephant like Kidogo on hand it is a tale that will become a firm favourite and hopefully stand the test of time making this a fun book and one that will linger within the memories of your young readers.

"Quick, Slow, Mango!" is a charming children's illustrated animal tale about a very slow little elephant named Kidogo and his very quick monkey friend, PolePole. The contrast between savoring every moment's experience, unencumbered by the pressure of deadline awareness with fast, scrambling, blurry, hurry-up motions such as PolePole picking mangos for breakfast is drawn out in text and illustration. The delicate water-color and pencil illustrations tell large parts of the story in themselves, like a sophisticated, special comic strip. "Quick, Slow, Mango!" is all about joyously finding the middle road and managing to navigate between the temptations of extremes to enjoy a very pleasant life. There certainly is value in learning to take one's time. "Quick, Slow, Mango!" uses Kiswahili words to teach concepts, such as kidogo (little), pole, pole (slowly, slowly), and chapu, chapu (hurry, hurry!). "Quick, Slow, Mango!" is perfect for children ages 3-7.
