An Engaging Book, even for patterns 28 Dec. 2012
By Nancy Lindquist - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
A hat is a hat and a crocheted hat is just that. So, you would think I could have enough patterns free on the internet to stoke my idea fires, make hats from, etc. Not true, and not close. You cannot have too many patterns, nor too much yarn. This book has eight designs, but from those you can go wild with ideas, colors, even different thread gauges, if you know the math. There are no rudimentary instructions in the thing, thank goodness. I always laugh when I get a difficult book of patterns in knitting, or crochet and they show you basic stitches. I have plenty of crochet books that use basic stitches, but it's all far more difficult and you must pay close attention to detail.

The instructions are easy to read, understandable and have merely one flaw. I wish all crochet and knitting books would place stitch patterns in them for me to follow. AS a dyslexic, stitch patterns are far easier to read and follow. The Faire Isle hat does have a color grid.

The most important thing is that I've made three of the hats so far and every single one of them has turned out like the photo. I won't pick a favorite, because there are things to love in all the hats, and because I have patterns from them all from Ravelry, I believe. I find them approachable and my thirteen year old has borrowed the book and is almost finished with his hat.

I really love this book and am very glad I purchased it.

The hats in this book are very cute. The patterns are well written and easy to follow, even for a novice.
