This guide is written at a high level in the sense that it assumes a relatively novice first-time Surface user. But let's face it-- if you knew exactly what you're doing, you wouldn't need the book!

You might have used a regular PC before, but you're not familiar with the Windows 8 touch screen gestures and user interface of the Surface, in which case this book will help you out. You might be thinking about buying a Surface "RT" model, or you just bought one, and you're wondering how it differs from the "Pro" model in terms of which apps you can use (and not).

This book serves its target audience well, and it seems strange that the previous reviewer issued such a low star rating on the basis that the book contains a lot of "text". Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I got my Microsoft Surface & intuitively did the basics but no user guide meant I knew I was missing a lot of features.
After a couple of days I first bought the "Quick & Easy Guide to Microsoft Surface" but it was next to useless as it totally lacked detail on how to do anything. It is written at a very high level & lot of text used. I read it cover to cover in about an hour and learned very little. Thankfully Amazon refunded.
I would not recommend this book.

.... Then I got Surface for Dummies (paper format) ... this was just what I needed .... it is well laid out, easy to reference or read from cover to cover. Lots of tips & details on getting to grips with the Surface & Windows 8 It also notes the limitations of RT. I would definatley recommend Surface for Dummies.... a bit more money but streets ahead in usefulness

Does just what it claims to do. To provide a quick intro. Ideal for users of other devices who just want the basic info to get started using their surface 'properly'.

Great for the true beginner with Win 8/Surface. If you have some knowledge, not great. Would recommend for first time Win 8 users

Just an Average Book 19 May 2013

The book was as it stated a quick and easy book. It doesn't go into much depth and it is something I believe Microsoft should have supplied with a surface purchase.

YES 30 April 2014

This booklet does guide new owners of the Microsoft Surface in a quick and easy way; It is especially easy to learn if one already has (and learned) the full version of Windows 8 on their desktops, laptops, or the differences between the RT and the Pro.. But even for those users, this is a good read to understand the few differences.

This should have been in the box with the Surface instrument.
