Book Description

28 Mar 1985 Puffin Books

Shreddies in my hair.

I looked at Eddie.

Eddie's looking at me.

Big grin on his face.

I knew he had done it.

Last week he put pepper in the raisins.

The yucky things your borther does, the annoying things your parents say, the funny things you feel.

Michael Rosen knows all about YOU! Look inside and see if he's spotted your deepest, darkest secrets.

A much-loved classic of family life from the brilliant Michael Rosen & Quentin Blake.

Review

Michael Rosen is a poet with a superb ear for the rhythms of language (Guardian )

One of our most popular writers - the champion for every bored, overdrilled, tested-to-tears pupil in the land (The Times )

I think poetry for children needs to be saved from the cold dissection of right and wrong answers and put back into rooms and halls full of wonder, compassion, haunting, laughter, music and rhythm. We need to hear its many cultures, many voices, many sounds. This is about wide and diverse participation. Diverse verse for all! (Michael Rosen, Children's Laureate 2007-2009 )

About the Author

Michael Rosen is one of the best known figures, not only in the children's book world but also the British arts scene. His first book of children's poems was published in 1974, and he has gone on to write numerous and award-winning children's poetry books, picture books and non-fiction such as Quick, Let's get Out of Here and We're Going on a Bear Hunt. Alongside this he performs, teaches, lectures, presents Word of Mouth on Radio 4 and reviews books for the Guardian. In 2007, Michael was appointed the fifth Children's Laureate - a role which he says will be used to be an "ambassador of fun".

This marvellous poetry book NEVER leaves my classroom. When I have a 2min gap to fill with my Year 6 class this book becomes my life saver. Michael Rosen has successfully summed up the trials and tribulations of changing nappies, eating cake in secret, racing go-karts and dodging the washing up, all from his childhood perspective. A perfect book for reading out loud and a completely accessible read for children. Great fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars By Victoria & Callum- Y3 26 April 2009
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
This is a brilliant book because the pictures match the writing perfectly.
It is a collection of poems. Our teacher likes to read the really long ones like Chocolate Cake which always makes us feel hungry. Many of the poems involve people being silly. Callum's favourite in Bathtime and Victoria's is Eddie & the wallpaper.
This book is for children of all ages and for people to read out loud.
There is a poem for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy memories of childhood 6 Aug 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Our teachers in infant school used to read this book to us all the time! We all adored these poems - they're funny, touching and highly memorable.
Tales of Eddie (usually throwing a wobbly), and the secret eating of the chocolate cake have stayed with me for years and years as happy reminders of primary school.

I recommend this book to any infant school teacher, and defy anyone who reads this book and doesn't enjoy it. Everyone should have a copy - I'm so happy that it's been re-published! I had to search eBay for a copy a few years back for my sister (who's now an infant school teacher), as I couldn't find it anywhere!

Michael Rosen came to my secondary school (mid-nineties) for a poetry reading, and I made a point of going to meet him to congratulate him on this book (what a geek!).

Happy, happy reading.
