I will Survive 25 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback
I became a widower this August after 25 years of marriage and at 47 years of age I had never cooked a meal. My late wife used to cook and I used to do the washing up.
So I purchased this book along with Delias "One is fun!" and I have ended up using this book alot more than the Delia book.
The recipes in this book are easy to follow and the best thing I found was that at the foot of each page there is a time given for the cooking time-(you do not get this in Delias book)-which I found if I doubled this time then that is how long it took me to prepare the ingredients and cook it.
The book covers everything from soups, meats, salads, pastas and vegy,so there is something for everybody.
So far I have not poisoned myself and would recommend this book as a good place to start if you have never cooked before.

very good 4 Dec 2009
By D-Man
Format:Paperback
Having spent ages trying to find an appropriate cook book, with an almost endless choice to be had. I found this book ticked all the boxes. As a male with a microwave tendancy and no culinary skills to speak of, I wanted a book that was designed for a single person, was relatively quick and had a good range of healthy meals and consentrated on "main courses" with no wasted chapters on baking pancakes [not that i have anything against pancakes!!] ... then this book, as said, ticked the right boxes. In short i have tried about 6/7 of the meals, and despite having the odd problem, mainly due to my lack of knowledge and skills, I have found the last week or two have been quite good. I will definately carry on and get better at cooking .... no going back to the microwave .... I recommend this book as a great starting point.

And most informative 6 April 2010
Format:Paperback
Bought this book to help daughter learn how to cook real meals, and you know what, wife has started copying out some of the ideas for herself. I do cook a little myself and I will be taking up some of the chicken dishes. There's no need to be afraid of the stove, guys.
