"Questors" is an excellent read, and is not just for children. With thrilling adventure and a rare spark of life, anyone can enjoy it. The writing is clever and witty and the plot has enough twists to keep the reader on their toes. They say they're looking for an heir to JK Rowling... I think I've found her.

A Good Start 20 Feb 2008
By Kirsten A. Edwards - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The three worlds: Bryn, Madlyn and Cam are no longer in equilibrium. To mend the breach, the five Prelates, from their ruling seat in London House, have caused three heroes to be born who will grow up to quest for objects of power. Unfortunately, one of the Prelates is the source of the breach and has meddled with the genetic makeup of the prospective heroes. Far from being the pinnacle of their world's strengths, they're, well... misfits. As the pace of destruction speeds up, the three would-be heroes (still middle-school age kids and utterly ignorant of their destiny) are snatched up, informed of the crisis, and thrown ten years into the future: Good luck kids! The fate of the world is on your shoulders!

The story begins in media res, and the author does a deft job of building the crisis, the setting and the character's backgrounds as the story rolls along. The characters are quirky and fun, the worlds strange and fascinating, and the revelation of Whodunnit adds a spice of mystery to the fantasy adventure. Reminiscent of Diana Wynne Jones, younger teens (and most fantasy fans of any age) will enjoy The Questors and be clamoring for more. Joan Lennon is an author to watch.

Top-quality ideas, but completely lacks depth! 10 July 2011
By Skylark - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book is very original, and that is both its strength and its weakness. To be honest, I thought the plot of the story was absolutely fascinating. It stayed far away from overused cliches, had interesting characters, settings and plot... but I constantly found that it left me hanging.

The story takes place over three worlds, all very different to ours (albeit with a similar level of technology), but none of the intriguing aspects were ever explained. The author would dangle tantalising concepts over my head and then never elaborate on any. There was an incredible lack of detail and description provided throughout the whole book, which was a real shame. I thought this had the potential to be a five-star book, but there simply wasn't enough depth to make it rise above average.

Lack of detail wasn't only a problem in fleshing out the book. It was so bad that it severely detracted from the plot, many times. Reading this, I felt as if someone had actually gone through the book and deleted one out of every two sentences, including critical sentences that were required to understand a plot point, at times. Important details that should have been highlighted were kept under the radar, or even missing completely. I found myself having to go back and re-read a paragraph or two because some crucial detail was only vaguely mentioned once in passing and then never referred to again. This was really disappointing.

I should stress again that I think the actual plot of this story is fantastic. The book displays a rare level of originality I don't often see. Otherwise this would have been a one-star failure, in my opinion. The fact is, nothing in this book was even remotely as fleshed out as it should have been.

More Details, Please! 13 Feb 2008
By EdaLewes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The first chapter and blurb for this book held enough interest for me to make me buy this book, for which I congratulate the author and the publisher and give the book two stars. However, I encountered some problems when it came to actually READING the book.

First of all there was Cam. Cam is a charming little creature who comes from a land where children are able to actually choose their own gender. There is, of course, no explanation of how this works; such details would be out of place in a children's book, but I was wondering throughout the portions I read how this was possible. In the first (or possibly second) chapter, when referring to Cam the author uses "she". Throughout the rest of the book, however, "it" is used, which distracted me from the central plot to wonder why Cam was being used as an object. It was as if the character was a monster rather than a person. But then, what is the appropriate pronoun to use for a genderless person? It was slightly confusing and very, very distracting.

The plot had me lost after a while, and this was because of lack of details. Not lack of description, but details in general about the specifics of everyday life. After a few days, I put this book down, so far not to pick it up again. Maybe I will someday, but this book is definitely not going on my list of favorite books of 2007.
