The golden hare was a very pretty and valuable bauble made by Kit Williams and could be found if you solved the clues in his book "Masquerade". Gascoigne was with Williams when he buried it and in this book he goes on to tell the story of some of the many attempts to locate it. He also solves the clues in the book and relates how it was found by a semi-cheat. A sad ending to a great quest which had most of the world interested and involved. Get a copy of "Masquerade" too and see how cleverly it was done. A classic treasure hunt and the best of the several that followed it. A great read.

This book is the definitive answer to all of the quest, written by one who was there at the time. Bamber Gascoige ploughed through masses of letters and includes many of the false hares that people followed - even some, so wrapped up in their own "solutions", that they failed to believe the true version.
This tells the whole story - warts and all.

A must-have for 'Masquerade' fans! 25 April 2007
By John Clavis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
If you have ever been obsessed with "Masquerade" by Kit Williams, you need to get yourself a copy of this book. An exhaustive and very readable account of Williams' beginnings, the idea and planning of [...], and the bittersweet story of how it all ended... not to mention a perfect explanation of the solution! A terrific book for armchair treasure hunters, as it provides a peerless peek into how a phenomenon like "Masquerade" can unfold.
