We looked for something non-standard for our 5-years-old son and finally bought this set. It does not model the appearance of the real-world things. Instead it is ideal to construct the internal arrangements. Surprisingly there are no plain brick blocks with the standard connectors. The parts are round-shaped and are smoothly connected in different ways. (One possible connection is by 4 thin pins - I'm not sure whether they will not be broken soon.) The real value is the possibility to assemble a system with the gears turning in two or more planes and connected either directly or with an oblique shaft.

Our box included two manuals with 3-4 examples and step-by-step assembling figures. That does not look enough for 270 pieces. But after building two constructs, our son refused to repeat the others and started to work on his own. Meanwhile I found a structure not even mentioned in the manuals and he enhanced it. We continue to explore not-yet-discovered constructs and I guess the short manuals forced us to reinvent the wheel in the good sense of this phrase.

Finally I would like to note that the mechanisms are 3-dimensional and develop good spatial thinking. I would not recommend it as a starter kit, but it's definetely a good choice for children having experience with building blocks.
