A bit of a curates egg this one. It's got nice pace and some great set pieces but as a narrative whole it barely makes sense. The story jumps around and just throws an unlikely cast of thousands at the reader and bombards you with places and scenarios but doesn't seem to bother linking them to a coherent story much. There is a an overwhelming sense of "why on earth am I reading this?". I doubt I'll be reading it again anyway.

Everyone's so used to all the sci-fi, and non-fiction work, that they forget what a good yarnsmith he was. Read it in 3 hours. It is that good. Mad Scots and Cubans, With a hapless Apache in the middle. I Identified, without the Apache part. Kvelertak!

HASH(0x928bcbb8) out of 5 stars Pleasant enough silly action pulp 27 Jun. 2013
By Trevor Kettlewell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Very pulp follow-up to `Montezuma's Revenge' - something I haven't read but I assume must have sold a few copies to inspire this sequel. Switch off your brain and step on board for a rather silly full on action ride. The baddies are more comical than dark and sinister, and the hero moderately urbane but hardly James Bond (or slippery Jim Di Griz). Somehow our art connoisseur North American Indian (?) has fallen into a job as an FBI agent, despite having no particular martial skills or aptitude. Otherwise it is pretty affable Ian Fleming stuff, with occasional babes and baddies to carry us along. I enjoyed it for a while although by the end it all felt a bit pointless. I prefer Harrison's pleasant enough style when he's not even giving the vaguest semblance of credibility.
HASH(0x928bcfc0) out of 5 stars old fashion action 18 Sept. 2012

I was a bit put off by the period and time when Harry
Harrison wrote this work.It is old and the story line shows this.No modern gimmicks here.I value the author
very highly from his "The Stars and Stripes in Peril"
series which I read again at least every couple of years.Any thing to see the "poms" get a kick in the but.And that from an Aussie.Back to Victoria's
Revenge. Its a strange title and has little to do with the story and the main character is an anti hero type.Worth a read but only after you have exhausted all other books you have on your Kindle. Its cheap enough and I doubt you will want to keep it after reading.Reasonable 1960's espionage

By Hookie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
A very light weight and older work by Harry Harrison.
Not at all up to the level of say the Stars and Stripes
trilogy.I felt I was in a 1950's black and white movie
while reading the book.A book you should be able to read in one session.Dont expect a lot from the book. Hookie

HASH(0x928bf264) out of 5 stars Good Read 11 July 2008
By J. Akins - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
First let me tell you that this not a scifi book.It is however a very good and well written story. It grabs your interest from the start and keeps to the end.I no longer buy books because I find most reviews are misleading. It seems to me that these reviewers purchase books and find thy got took.So in anger thy write glowing reviews to sucker in others to waste there mony.I read reviews on books then if I can find them at the Library.I read the first 25 pages if by then it has not grabbed my attention I let it pass.I find that to many authors start out good then fill there pages with so much discriptive detail it detracts from the story.I also find that most books over 300 pages are loaded with just page filler that has nothing to do with the plot so beware when purchasing a book.I find anything written by Harry Harrison is good.

HASH(0x928bf450) out of 5 stars Read it if you can find it 16 April 2003

This was a pleasant surprise, as I didn't realize Harrison wrote non-sci-fi fiction until I found this book in a nearby library. I enjoyed this every bit as much as his "Rat" books, and was similar in that it had a main char. who always seemed to be running into trouble. Good stuff, read it!
