Product Description

Product Description

Deposed from the Punjab, the quixotic Duleep Singh converted to Christianity and bought an estate in East Anglia, becoming one of the best shots in the country and a favourite of Queen Victoria who acquired his spectacular koh-I-noor diamond. However, his extravagance and the parsimony of the India Office then led him to declare a holy war to recover his homeland from the British Empire.

About the Author

Michael Alexander was educated at Stowe, Sandhurst and Colditz. He has travelled extensively and adventurously in Asia and the Americas, locating 12C Firuzkoh in central Afghanistan and describing the lost minaret of Jham. He visited Fraser Island while preparing (with Michael Luke) a film on the subject of this book. He has written a screenplay for Vladimir Nabokov's Ada which he is also producing. He is interested in natural history and was a director of Wildlife Magazine and founder of the Woburn Safari Service. The author of a number of highly acclaimed historical studies, he lives in London. Sushila Anand is a writer living in London.
