Many of us know The Snow Queen-in itself, one of Andersen's most dramatic stories. This version, brought out by the excellent Templar, is illustrated by a young and very fine Ukrainian illustrator, Vladyslav Yerko. He appears to specialize in minute details which combine to create an atmosphere which is almost tangible-this book is full of cold and frostiness !

This would make a wonderful present to someone of virtually any age. And I'm waiting with baited breath for more English-language books containing Yerko pictures.

This book was bought as a gift for my 4 year old daughter who has been fascinated with the illustrations from the "Snow Queen US" website. We already own at least four other versions of the Snow Queen including those in story collections and I think that this particular version is my favourite along with the Christian Birmingham one.

This is a heavy book and not particularly child friendly to hold and read independently. However, I did read this aloud to my child and she listened most attentively and was eager to find out what happened to our heroine Gerda in the next chapter as she journeys on to rescue her beloved friend Kay. There is no simplifying or dumbing down of the text in this retelling but I regard this as a good thing and respectful towards the original story.

The illustrations are absolutely indulgent, done with great care and attention to detail. The "I Spy" game at the end of the book gives readers another chance to go over and appreciate the intricacy and beauty of the illustrations.

Overall, this is a wonderful gem of a book that both children and adults would enjoy.

I love the Snow Queen story and find the whole idea and search for its sources fascinating. This book is very rich in detail and skilfully illustrated. However, I don't feel a great connection to the style somehow. There's lots to look into, but it doesn't somehow capture the spirit of the story for me, but others may feel differently. Glad to have it in my collection overall though.

I have this book in Russian and was very pleasantly surprised that you can get it in English too. The illustrations are simply stunning and so detailed that my daughter and I often use the magnifying glass to look at them. I would recommend this book to anyone. It would make a stunning gift.
