his novella is exactly that - nothing you would expect it to be. OK, its a young adult-focused adventure story, and I guess you could say you were expecting that, but what I loved about it was the wry humour and the exceptionally skillful worldbuilding, which I wasn't, at least - not in the way its been done. Kim as put a brilliant spin on steampunk into this story, and the variety of characters give the whole thing an almost 'Alice in Wonderland' background; fantastical and colourful.
Dont want to say any more, as to explain any more about why this story is worth a read would start drifting towards spoilers, and I wouldn't want to do that :)
