Queen began almost thirty years ago in the student bed sits of London, when Brian May, Roger Taylor and Freddie Bulsara met through a college ad placed on a notice board at Imperial College. After wearing out several bass-players, John Deacon joined to complete the line-up of one of the biggest selling and best-loved of Britain's bands. This is their story.
There have been many attempts to give an insight into this band both in print and on film. Most notable of these was the "Magic Years" set-of-three, which like this video, was produced by the Torpedo Twins, Dolezal and Rossacher. Fans will recognise many excerpts from that compilation in this show. However, none, (that are available to buy), were as up-to-date as this, which chronicles the journey of Britain's other Fab Four, up to the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992.
It's difficult to cover everything from the massive canon of work that this band produced over thirty years. But this covers all the main points over a 120 minute length, in segments. There are features on the most important aspects of Queen's work - their contribution to video art, the story of Bohemian Rhapsody, live concerts, music for film, their crowning performance at Live Aid and so on. Each of the members has a segment to themselves - "John talks", "Roger talks", well, you get the idea. One section deals with their world-wide TV appearances and you should watch for the hilarious TV interview between Freddie and the young Brazilian presenter.
The viewer is rollercoastered along for ninety minutes on a plethora of fast cuts and choppy edits, so unmistakably the trademark of the Torpedo Twins, accompanied by some of the best pop music produced over the band's career.

This video was really good - giving previously unseen footage of Queen's much earlier days, and of course, into the much later years as well. Provides glimpses of most film clips, behind-the-scene footage of the making of the film clips, their concerts, interviews with Queen's friends (David Bowie, Elton John) and of course, interviews with the band members themselves. Also has a section about the last few years of Freddie's life, guaranteed to score a few tears if you're a sensitive Queen fan. If you have been a Queen fan for so long you can't even remember when it began, then you've probably seen most of this before. But if you are a new fan or just the casual viewer, it'd be great for you and you won't be disappointed. Otherwise, grab it just to complete the collection!

Very Awesome! 7 May 2000
By Kelly Klein - Published on Amazon.com
I love this video. It showed Queen from beginning to end (andbeyond) and is a must for anyone who's a fan. There are interviews, and info, and behind-the-scenes stuff...I love the video so much. It was sad in the end, but there were a lot of laughs too. I saw a side of Queen I had never seen before. Now I appreciate them a whole lot more than ever. I don't regret for a second that I bought this video. I watch it again and again. There's a lot of music, and a lot of talk. If you're a true Queen fan, I highly recommend this video. I own over a hundred videotapes with many movies, tv shows, documentaries, interviews, music videos...but Queen: Champions of the World is my absolute favourite of them all.

TITANS OF ROCK ! 6 Aug. 2002
By David R. Lorenz - Published on Amazon.com

Queen was a rock band that grew, matured, and changed with the times, from the early 1970's thru Freddie Mercury's final recorded vocals (Made In Heaven) in the 1990's.
The video showcases the various styles and sounds in the 20+ years that Queen recorded and performed as a band. It covers the many t.v. interviews and performances, music videos, and concert tours.
Plus, an intimate tribute to Freddie Mercury, who passed away in November, 1991, from the members of Queen, and many others who were in their own way touched or inspired by Freddie and Queen.

If you love Queen, this is for YOU!! 13 Oct. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Of all Queen videos, this one gets the award. It covers almost all Queen material that exsists. This video shows complete interviews and songs while other shows cut them into clips. Buy this video if there is something you've been wondering about Queen.

"King Mercury, long may he reign" 24 Feb. 2005
By W. Langan - Published on Amazon.com
It's hard to do justice to one of the most popular bands of the 1970's in only 2 hours but they've done a wonderful job producing and editing the history of Queen. It features interviews with Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon and even Freddie Mercury. The documentary is divided into different segments, including Queen's years before they formed. Smile was a band Brian and Roger were in with Tim Staffel (where the song "Doing Allright" was written) and Freddie had released a few singles under the psuedonym Larry Lurex. There's a special (and hilarious) section for the classic "Bohemian Rhapsody." Mike Myers gives a special "Thank you" for their blessings with the Wayne's World movie. The band discusses their video history (they had been making them regularly before the advent of MTV; the videos for "The Miracle" and "Innuendo" are discussed and Roger's comment about "These Are the Days of Our Lives" is quite poignant), their albums (Brian mentions that he wishes they had added all gotten credit on all songs prior to the Miracle), singles (Roger discusses "Breakthrough"), tours (touring Tokyo, Rio, Budapest and their legendary performance at Live Aid) and movies (Queen's music was featured in Flash Gordon, Highlander and Iron Eagle). You get insights into the individual members of the band (Brian appears to be introspective and honest, Roger appears to be jovial and cheerful, John appears even-handed and reserved, he bashfully admits he wishes he could sing and Freddie appeared charming and flamboyant, he knew how to handle obnoxious interviewers). Other rock stars share their feelings about Queen (John Entwistle, Axl Rose, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney and Keith Richards). Finally, there's mention of the Concert for Life the year after Freddie's passing away and Made In Heaven. This is only available on VHS. Hopefully, a version of this on DVD is soon in the works.

Love the interviews 20 Jan. 2003
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
I have all the cds so I know the music. Saw the band perform live more than once, so I know the stage show. This gives us something more. This video has great interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from all four band members and many other people who were affected by their music in any way. And that's why any true fan would be well advised to own this video. Excellent!
