wow! Didnt know what to expect when i heard the band were coming out with a new record after all these years and was expecting the worst. what i get instead is probably their finest album yet - even better than the fabulous 'first base'! dont worry about some of the lukewarm reviews on this page - this is a fantastic record. great songs throughout. crystal clear warm and punchy production. jenny never sang better and shacklock never played better! the track 'que pasa' itself is a song that all the fake 'R&B'(sic)/hip hop artists out today would kill to write but of course never could. in fact MTV and terrestial radio would play this track to death were it the creation of anyone of todays blank generation of artists. but seeing as its a track created by talented, profesional musicians in their 60's they will of course, ignore it.

The first 3 tracks here are just about as good as music gets. The fourth track, 'mother tongue' whilst just as strong, lets itself down a bit by plundering the 'fistful of dollars' theme when it really didnt need to. a minor quibble but one that is justified cos it does let an otherwise great song down. the 3 following tracks are absolutely top notch too. 'the blues' is perhaps the weakest song on the album whilst the inclusion of 'the mexican' doesnt really bring anything new to the plate with that classic song so dont really understand its presence here. wouldve been far better to have another new song included

a few minor issues then, but in no way does this detract from an ESSENTIAL album. babe ruth - all these years later and youve come up with this?!! you should be proud

Incredible Return 10 Jan 2010
Format:Audio CD
I originally bought this album on MP3 from the Babe Ruth website but didn't hesitate to buy again when released on CD.
Less compressed in sound the CD shows just what a truly brilliant return to the fray Que Pasa is. With an eclectic mixture of Beats, Rock, Club, Latin and Hip Hop the band have produced one of the most enjoyable albums I have heard in a while.
The lineup is the classic of Dave Hewitt, Ed Spevock, Jenny Haan, Dave Punshon and Alan Shacklock and trust me, they power their way though a set of good solid songs with a classic sound and a very modern twist. Particularly impressive is Jenny Haan's voice which has lost non of it's power and verve.
I'm not going to review each track as time is limited and boredom sets in. Just buy the CD, put it on a decent system, turn the volume way up and luxuriate in a good solid rock album with some very different influences.
It'll cost you a lot less than a round at the pub and give a lot more pleasure.

After hesitating for some time I finally bought this album. Guess I was afraid to be let down. After all, the first 2 albums were their best and after that their energy and inspiration gradually faded. But what a great surprise this comeback is! I agree with those saying that this is as energetic and good as the 'First Base' and very innovative with all the familiar elements but hotted up. Apache embedded into Mother Tongue pt 1 and 2 is top notch, but all tracks have their place. The album stands on its own even without 'The Mexican'. Welcome back Jenny, Alan et co.!
