Product Description

An exclusive short story for World Book Day from one of our bestselling authors. This brilliant comic thriller will have you on the edge of your seat.

Albert Rossi has many qualities. He’s a man who can spot polyester at a hundred paces. He’s the person you’d have on speed dial were you to find yourself at the centre of a tailoring emergency. He has an excellent working knowledge of Bonnie Tyler’s back catalogue. These skills are essential to a Gentleman’s Outfitter from Eastcote. They are not necessarily on the job description for recruiting an assassin.

When Albert hits an unsuspecting pedestrian whilst listening to ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ in his Nissan Micra he is amazed to escape the inevitable knock on the door from the police. Instead he receives a mysterious phone call from a man who sounds surprisingly like Stephen Hawking telling him that his money will be left in the ‘usual’ place. At that very moment, Albert Rossi decides to change careers.

Albert Rossi’s life is about to get a whole lot more interesting…

Spy-thriller spoof 14 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The Quick Read series are great for trying out different authors, although this quirky story is very different to the historical fiction novels that Conn Iggulden usually writes.
This short story is about Albert Rossi, the owner of a menswear shop whose life undergoes a radical change. Driving home one Monday afternoon, a quick chain of events and a chance to pay off his debts leads to Albert being hired for murder.
The combination of deadpan writing style along with trying to picture the comical scenes involving Albert, I found this story a fun read.

Small is good! 12 Feb 2012
By Mark
Format:Paperback
Don't be put off by the size of the book. A great little story very like a "Tales of the Unexpected" (bring it back!!). Would make a great 1 hour TV drama/comedy with Martin Freeman and Vinny Jones and directed by Guy Ritchie. Yes its a book you can read on the way to work and finish on the way home, as long as you don't drive to work in a Nissan Micra!

A Quantum of Humour 6 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The title made me smile and the blurb made this a must buy.

A James Bond pastiche in a very British style, I honestly thought I was going to laugh my socks off when I bought it, but in the end I didn't. What I did do was a smile a lot and that's certainly not something to be sneezed at. Of course, if you don't remember who Bonnie Tyler is then a lot of the humour here is going to be wasted on you.

It's short and the ending felt far too rushed as though trying to come in under a word count or something, but I've had less fun with longer books also marketed as funny.

Moderate your expectations and you'll have a good (short) time.

Made me chuckle - Loved it.
I loved this book.
Yes, it is only a quick read, and the plot is really quite ridiculous; but for me that only added to it's charm and quirkiness. Read more

I thought this was going to be funnier than what it is...

A brilliant read
I like the sort of long novels that Conn Iggulden writes, so it was surprising to discover that he has written a couple of shorts. Read more

If it's labelled "quick read". It's by Conn Iggulden. That's enough for me to buy it.

MORE OF A SHORT STORY
Hi I thought this book was too short to fully develop the characters or plot. It says its a quick read which is what you get. Ok to read in one go.

Not to be taken seriously
I love Quick Reads and this latest offering from the 2012 collection is no exception. A cross between Johnny English and James Bond, Albert Rossi finds himself a hit man, when he... Read more

An amusing little novella
As you might guess from the title, this little book is quirky, but in a good way. Its actually closer to James Bond than Austin Powers, for all our protagonist is a middle-aged... Read more
