Whilst not professing to be an expert on avant garde music i got into things like karl heinz stockhausen , Tangerine dream, can and krafkwerk in the late 70s and this and basils other work sits alongside that well. He blends recorded loops with strange choirs ,electronica with samples. This really is 'out there' stuff but what makes it remarkable is that it was concieved about 40 years ago but sounds so modern. Basil was one of the UKs lost jems and did truly original work whilst shunning publicity and hype. His albums are usually sought after by deep and meaningful students of music and do have that 'intelectual' feel. That however can put some off what is actually an unusual and intersting concept that is well worth experimenting with. Avant garde, obscure and 'out there' it is and possibly would be the oddest CD in your collection, but it still veers on the side of the musical and is worthy of rediscovery.

I have waited 10yrs to hear this album, I watched a film called 'The Mutations' and the soundtrack blew me away, at the time the film was made the album was known as 'Worlds within worlds'. It's a very strange album, a mixture of Jazz and Ambient, the most important thing to mention (that other reviewers forget) is the sound quality, I'm pleased to say that it sounds fantastic, I think it's been put on C.D straight from the master tapes.
I can't wait to hear parts 3 and 4.
If you like Jazz or anything that's a little out of the ordinary then this is a 'must have'!
