5.0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking 5 Aug 2011
I rarely write reviews, but in light of the damning 1 star contribution by "Savita" I have to add comment.

For me, the film was interesting and thought provoking. Yes Amit Goswami's perspective combines spiritual ideas with his wealth of knowledge of quantum physics; since his background does include Hinduism and Indian cultural beliefs then it is no surprise the ideas merge... but i don't see why this would be an issue to anybody with an inquiring and open mind. It is refreshing to have such an intelligent individual who is (undoubtedly more intelligent than most) bringing such ideas to the masses and trying to combine the pure physics of the spiritual doubters with the ideas of those people who know and feel that there is something bigger than us as individuals.

If you want a film that will leave you thinking, a film that will help you get back in to the space of your own journey, and if you are open to ideas that may not be your own then this film will do it for you. If you have preconceived ideas that you wish someone else to affirm, or if you want a DVD about pure physics then move on to the next thing. For some people this film wont be the answer they were looking for, but at least it will make you think and that's always going to be a good thing.

One the most inspiring documentaries Ive ever seen. The production values are as good as it gets.
Goswani gives a credible scientific argument for the existence of a higher conscious.
The paradoxes he talks about in science are addressed by putting the theory forward that consciousness itself is the driver of reality.
And after hes finished you'll find it hard to argue with.
It makes perfect sense, as he irons out the paradoxes of the orthodox view.

Its a life changing piece of work.
Forget the 1 star reviews (clearly done by the same person) who has some hang up with Hindu ideas (Hinduism isnt the main theme of this documentary anyway, the "Hinduism masquerading as science" statement is nonsense.

When someone thinks outside of the box, like Goswani does, there's always someone negative to bite at the heels...shame...funny how they cant answer the points he makes in the DVD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hindu Activist would be a better title 15 Sep 2010
By Savita
I was hoping for some new insights in the fields of Quantum Physics and Philosophy of Mind but all this is is the same old Hinduism portraying itself as scientific, even more so than was the case in 'What the Bleep?'. There is nothing much new here either unless you have never seen 'What the Beleep?' and never been exposed to eastern thinking before in which case you might find it inspiring. If you want science look elsewhere as this is less than 5% science and more than 95% hindu ideology. I'm not saying that makes it intrinsically wrong. Everyone has a right to their beliefs but portraying those beliefs as if they were established scientific facts is not really playing fair is it?

If you are familiar with the tachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi you'll find most of those ideas echoed here almost as if they've been lifted wholesale. But then you'd expect that since they are both drawing on the same source - hinduism. The ESP research must be considered suspect since almost all serious researchers in cognitive science and philosophy of mind agree that no results in this area have ever been forthcoming.

If you have a serious interest in philosophy of mind and consciousness I'd recommend any book by Anotonio Damasio and especially Descarte's Error as a starter. Chalmers' Philosophy of Mind collection is also very good and top of the tree in the technical books on consciousness for me so far has been Peter Carruthers' 'Consciousness - essays from a higher order perspective'. I have tremendous respect for eastern traditions and especially those of ancient India and I'm sure they have a great contribution to make but I don't think that this masquerading as science is the right way to put them over.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hinduism revisited 4 Jan 2012
I've instantly felt how the miracle of real change still remains hidden, even for a Hindu scientist. Unfortunately, this dvd turns around the same old beliefs... only to get the same outcome, the one that as a fact portraits human culture today.

In my opinion and for this context, I prefer a mind training course rather than a documentary. If you still want to "watch about reality", there is plenty of Art that figures in one shot more than a thousand words.

Congratulations for the realisation and for trying.
Not recommended.

I had to watch this film a few times because some of the richest and most mind shattering ideas are said in such an off handed way you miss them the first time through! This is a beautiful film that has brought a real calm and peace to me since I have watched it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It! 18 Sep 2009

This is a lovely documentary summarizing the ideas and vision of a revolutionary physicist of our time, Dr. Amit Goswami. For those who are familiar with Dr. Goswami's books, this will be a refreshing overview of his main ideas. As for those who are not familiar with his works, it is a nice introduction that will inspire you to read his works like "The Self-Aware Universe" (a masterpiece!), "Creative Evolution" and "God Is Not Dead".

The DVD is really cool as it has a bonus of an interview where by Neo-Darwinism, Intelligent Design theory and Goswami's hypothesis of "Creative Evolution" are discussed in a good introductory detail. Again that will inspire interested readers to pick up his "Creative Evolution" book for further elaborate details on the subject (a fascinating book as well - see my review of it here on Amazon).

All in all, this DVD is brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and spiritual journey into consciousness 3 Oct 2009
By Rocio Morales - Published on
It is a well directed and visually pleasant journey into the quest for Consciousness.
It is grounded and full of relevant information and Dr. Amit Goswami explains theoretical concepts in a simple way.
It is exciting to see the frontiers between spirituality and Science disappear and connect at a deeper level.
Dr. Goswami explores the difference between brain matter and consciousness, free will, humans and their relation to God and the connection between us all.
A worth watching film!

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehesive documentary 30 Sep 2009
By Belen B. Schneider - Published on
The Quantum Activist takes what is a very complex subject, and produces a strong and engaging narrative explaining each step in Dr. Goswami's philosophy. Interwoven with the story is a near perfect backdrop of music and visual effects that serve only to enhance the poignant details as the unfold. While most would pigeon hole this into the "New Age" category, it is far more a scientific examination of facts and theories and looking at them in a different light. The documentary will challenge you to question things you think you know and may even inspire one to change the world they know. This is a highly accessible film that brings Dr. Goswami's perspective of God, the Universe, Quantum Mechanics all together to solve some of Mankind's greatest mysteries.
