Having watched my old metal/plastic coated two-tier drainer slowly die of a gathering rust and rot, it was time to replace it. On scouring websites and Amazon, the reviews were mixed and prices a bit scary. A three tier drainer was £60, which was desirable but not acceptable in price. Having found this one with 10 reviewers giving 5 stars, I thought I would give it a try. Easy to put together, and after having a period of moaning because it was not exactly like the old one (who likes change)? I finally accepted that the placement of a few things had to change.
II discarded the white draining tray because it was a nuisance to keep draining it, given the position my drainer has to be in on the sink unit, but I love that the lower shelf has a clearance above the draining board which allows me to get my hand and wrist underneath to wipe the draining board dry and prevent limescale and staining. I was dubious about this drainer being able to take the weight of my heavy pans, particularly two at a time, but so far it has not given cause for concern.
I like to drain glasses and cups slightly tilted so water drains off the bottom instead of leaving a small pool. I needed a square piece of the non-slip stuff I use on trays because the cups and glasses fell over when placed on the bottom tray of the drainer. Now though, I have it sussed and am well pleased. I can see why people give this 5 stars. Only one small niggle, the cutlery drainers are not deep enough to prevent cutlery from falling out and I have continued to use my steel cutlery drainer which stands on the lower tray and use the cutlery drainers for my dishcloth and pan scrub.
For the price, you really cannot go wrong with this, it is sturdy, holds a lot of dishes and looks good. I got the white one which looks clean and bright.
