In the end, I decided that with circa 50 people having rated this appliance as 5 stars, they surely couldn't be wrong, and proceeded to order this Posner waffle maker. I can honestly say that it has lived up to every expectation.
It is simplicity itself, simply lightly oil the machine plates (I apply a light coating of vegetable oil using a silicone pastry brush, however the health conscious may wish to consider using 1-calorie spray oil), switch on the machine, adjust the heat dial if you wish (however I simply leave mine on 'medium') wait until the green light goes out, then pour enough waffle mix into the machine (you will learn how much to add to avoid 'overspill' with experience) to cover the bottom plate, and close the lid.
Three to four minutes later (avoid the temptation to have a peek too early, or risk tearing your waffle!), open the lid to find perfect golden waffles inside - evenly cooked, soft and fluffy on the inside, but with a delightful light sugar 'crunch' on the outside.
The supplied waffle mix is delicious, however it is the easiest thing to make your own waffle batter, and it will typically keep in fridge for two days, in a covered container. Or, do as we do and batch-cook the waffles, freeze them, then remove and heat up in the toaster as and when required.
The waffles are very easily lifted off the non-stick surface with a silicone spatula.Read more ›
This is really easy to use. The mix included lasts quite a while and all you need to do is add oil and water (and when it does run out the mix is as easy to make from scratch as pancake batter). Turn on the machine, add a thin layer of oil to the non-stick griddle - I use vegetable oil and apply with a piece of kitchen towel. When the green light turns on it's good to go (there's a temperature gauge on top and I like waffles to be a bit crispy so I whack it up to maximum).
Add the batter with a small ladle for best results, but don't be tempted to over-do it or the waffle will spill out the sides when it expands during cooking, causing it to stick to the outside areas of the appliance. Close the lid and leave for a few minutes. After about three minutes you can lift up the lid and have a peek at how your waffles are looking. If they're not brown enough yet, just close it again for a couple more minutes.
Once done you're left with a nice round waffle, which is divided into quarters you can easily pull apart to give you four neat sections that look great on the plate (they actually make a great desert at dinner parties as they're so easy to make - just add some sliced banana, quality ice cream and a drizzle of toffee sauce - sorted).
And provided you haven't spilled any of the mix on the outside of the machine then the clean up is easy. Let it cool and give it a wipe using the same oiled paper towel you prepared it with before starting.
