Product Description

Product Description

The Qualcast Panther 30 cylinder hand mower ensures the finest cut with its 4 bladed cutting cylinder. The cylinder provides a clean scissor like cut on your lawn, and with a full 30 cm cutting width, it is ideal for small lawns.

You can put your trust in Qualcast as they have 90 years of experience in producing top quality mowers. The first Panther lawnmower was made in 1932 and its success ensured it is still in production today.

A Cylinder cutting system

Cylinder mowers use a horizontally mounted cylinder of blades that cut against a fixed bottom blade for a superior scissor-like cut.

Cylinder mowers give the best finish to your lawn as they cut the grass cleanly without ripping it.

Easy to Push and No Running Costs

Due to the high geared side wheels, the mower is very easy to push. It also gives you complete freedom to use the lawnmower anywhere free of charge.

Height of Cut

Simple “nut and bolt” adjustments easily change the height of cut for different lawn conditions. There is a range of heights with positions from 12 - 40 mm.

Compact Storage

The Panther 30 is easy to store due to the 4-piece, stud mounted handles which quickly remove for compact storage.

Get stripes with the Rear roller

With the rear roller you can gain stripes over your lawn, and importantly it offers stability up to lawn edges.

Grass Collection

With a 20 L grass collection box it means less time is spent emptying and more time can be spent gardening.

The Panther 30 is extremely lightweight at only 6.5 kg meaning it is easy to move around the garden.

With this Qualcast lawnmower you get a 2 year parts and labour guarantee.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Qualcast Panther 30 11 April 2005
For my 100 foot x 12 foot lawn, this hand mower is actually quicker than the hover mower it replaced. No fiddling with cables.
It's also no extra effort than the hover, which I wasn't expecting.
o Cheap compared with electrical and petrol alternatives
    o Time saving
    o Cuts well
o You can get a rudimentary stripe effect
o Not all grass ends up in the grass box
o Grass box frequently falls off
o Sometimes jams in long grass

5.0 out of 5 stars Proof that the simplest solutions are the best 14 Feb 2005
By J. Brand TOP 1000 REVIEWER
I bought this to replace a broken flymo. Actually that is not quite true I bought a small flymo to replace a flymo that had broken but that was so bad and inadequate that it was bought tried and returned for a refund in a single afternoon. After that I bought this to replace the electric mower and it is a revelation to use one of these. Most people will probably assume that any powered solution must automatically be better but this proves otherwise.
Unless you have a large lawn this is far less work than trying to use any small powered mower. It's lighter to move around the garden, the grass cuttings are small enough that they can be left on the lawn without problems and there are no problems with cables getting in the way. Are there any problems with this? well none that you wouldn't have with a powered lawn mower, the only problem I have found is a tendency to clog on the first cut of the year but I've found that with every lawn mower I've ever used.
Above all this has one major virtue that no other lawn mower has - it is so simple that the chance of it's breaking is so low as to be negligible and if anything does go wrong then you can fix it yourself.
Unless you have a large lawn then I would recommend to anyone that they ditch the power mowers and get one of these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old ways prove to be the best 13 Jun 2008
I have just taken delivery of this lawnmower and what can I say, absolutely fantastic! I have an allotment with a newly seeded lawn in need of its first cut, so I spent a couple of nights on the net, looking at different options. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a lawnmower, what with the recent break-ins to sheds, but wanted something that wasn't going to chew up my hard work. Reading other reviews, I decided this was the best choice, and for 30 quid, delivered it was worth a risk. Out of the box, it took 10 minutes and a bit of nervous bending of handles to get them to fit in the required slots, which in my opinion makes everything more solid once bolted together, and I was ready to try it out. Cutting height settings are very straight forward, undo two bolts and position to the required height. You can then fine tune the height by loosening the bolts and slide up or down to the right height. It took approximatley five minutes to go over my 10x5 metre lawn, which is great when you think it would take that to get an extension lead set up, or your petrol mower started sometimes! To be fair, it didn't catch all of the cuttings, but it did get most of them. I didn't have any problems with the grass box falling off. I put the brackets on the inside of the fixing plate so it got a good grip. I wonder if the people that had problems put it on the outside. I also think it takes less effort to push this very lightweight mower around than a bulky petrol mower. You can also feel slightly smug that you are doing your bit for the environment. I would strongly recommend to anyone thinking of buying a new lawnmower to buy this. A brilliant lawnmower at an amazing price!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good (but not perfect) 18 May 2009
    Cutting: 5 stars.
It cuts nicely, especially for EUR 50 device. As expected, the endings of the grass steems are neatly cut, much better than with my old and much more expensive rotary mower. It can handle not-so-perfect grass (as mine) and it can handle longer grass (in my case up to ~8cm, which was the result of rainy weather). Of course, the limitations of cylinder mowers apply.

    Grass collecting: 2 stars.
It's really poor. It could be somewhat improved by small design modifications. The mower cylinder tends to throw the grass to the left and above the collecting basket. Little piece of plastic cover on the left side would improve the resuls a lot. I will probably make a DIY solution.

    Few other issues I have:
    - The are few plastic parts which could be made out of metal for longer durability. Time will show.
    - The unit came slightly scratched on few places (package was not damaged).
    - The cutting blade was not properly aligned when the unit came.

Recommended if you're aware of few issues and they do not bother you.
It would be 4 without plastic parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! Job done despite rough ground! 15 April 2009
    By Gina J
    Verified Purchase
Qualcast Panther 30 Sidewheel Cylinder Lawn mower
Every time I arrive at my French house, the grass is always difficult to walk through (although not long - basically you get your feet soaked!) I have a hover and a petrol mower, but I want to get paths mown asap to the gate, to the garden without having to power up. Solution - this great retro machine. I put it together, with some help I have to admit, in 15 minutes, set it to rough ground, non-fine cutting. Whoosh. 3 paths mown. ten minutes. No problem (and I'm over 60 and not particularly beefy). The grass is ex-pasture so the ground is lumpy and tussocky. This mower does the job, low energy, quick and efficient. You get what you pay for, but this is a bargain as far as I am concerned.
    Added in September 09
I have now got two of these, I managed to keep the grass in France well-kept throughout all summer, despite wet weather and erratic growth patterns. (It really was once meadow land, now it looks neat and clear at the front of the house). I have now bought one for home, because basically it will do the job, and I can mow the lawn in the time it takes to get out the electric mower and set it up. And it's not a small lawn area. I can also get a bit of walking in (6000 steps a day anyone?), and I use no fuel/power, AND, it's quieter. Love it. And it's cheaper now than when I bought the first one..
