I've had Qualcast mowers before, but am horrified at the quality and reliability of this model. It is terrible. I bought it in December 2006 and, being winter, never used it until spring. It is cheaply made, low grade plastic, most of the main components like the hadle hinges and the height adjuster are plastic. When I started to use it I thought, this will never last. I was right. Now, in July 2007 after 3 months use it's useless. It will not cut, and you cannot align the blades to cut properly. Too close to the basplate and it makes a terrible noise, open the gap and it does not cut. Worse thing though is that I find that Amazon will not take it back, even though it has a 12 month guarantee, and 5 years on parts. I'd like to see one of these pieces of junk lasting 2 years, let alone 5.

I bought this mower two years ago and it died after about 14 months use on a small-medium size garden. The power rating is quite low and therefore it often struggles if the grass is the slightest bit damp. Also the cylinder is driven by a belt from the motor. Part of this mechanism actually sheered off completely and it was at this point that I put it in the skip. The idea of getting a nice 'stripe' effect on the garden doesn't work either. I'd strongly recommend getting a more powerful mower as even on a small-medium size garden this one struggles and then dies.

I dont know why my name comes as unsatisfied as I am not.
Amazed by the reviews of this lawnmower I had to add my own. I bought mine off ebay and when I picked it up I asked the guy why he was selling. He said it doesn't cut well. Well it was too late to back out so I picked it up and took it home. Well he was right, grass flattened, motor straining etc but I quickly turned it over and realised the base plate was not adjusted. It was a full 1/4" off the blades! No wonder it does not cut. Don't people read instructions! It even tells you on the back of the grass box you need to adjust the blade. Thats how cylinder mowers work. It uses a scissor action to give a clean cut. So 2mins with a screwdriver and magic. Fantastic cut neat, motor no longer straining. I think this will explain many of the negative comments. If you dont want a mower that needs 2mins adjustment every couple of months then buy a rotary or flymo but the cut will not be as good as a well adjusted cylinder mover as instead of cutting like scissors a rotary bashes the grass to cause bruising. Any golf course, wimbledon etc always use cylinder mowers but they just need to be kept in adjustment. It will make a noise when you have the blade touching the baseplate (like one reviewer mentioned) thats the idea! Its loud for the first cut until the blade settles in. If its not making a noise the blades not touching the baseplate and its trying to cut free dangling grass. As for the flimsy construction it seems fine to me, most things are plastic these days and you are not standing on it or throwing it around.
