The pot noodle of the porridge world, these little pots of porridge are great snacks and exceptionally easy to make. Add boiling water to the fill line, mix thoroughly for 15 seconds, replace lid and wait for 1 minute - mix again and it's ready!
It mixes up well so you get a good consistency, not lumpy or watery. Taste wise, personally the golden syrup flavour is just too sweet, almost to the point of being sickly. I do like the Quaker golden syrup sachet variety and much prefer the overall flavour and level of sweetness with those. The last two pots, I fished out the flavour/sugar lump before adding the water and I have to say I prefer the flavour this way - it's still sweet, just not overbearingly so. I guess if you've ordered a pack of these and like me, you find them to be too sweet, this might be a useful tip.
I know that real porridge enthusiasts are always going to have an issue with a product like this and yes it's going to be healthier if you make your own porridge from scratch. But this is a convenience food and that's how you should see it: it's something you can easily make up at the office and it's great for when you just want a quick fix with minimal fuss. I won't be ordering this flavour again but I have to say I've been enjoying all the porridge pots I've been eating lately (I started off with the Alpen branded versions - same concept, just creamier in taste) I tried the caramel version of the Oats So Simple last week and the flavour is so much more balanced so that's what I'll be ordering as soon as Amazon start to stock it.
