Don't bother with this book, it was out of date before it was even printed.
It feels like all of Qt Mobility API's have changed from the time of printing, Bearer Mobility is an obvious case, along with the Sensor framework which in the book is listed as a "Qt-Like mobile extension" - XQDeviceOrientation etc. That's been moving to a real Mobiltiy API of QSensor, as it's all been overtaken with the Nokia Qt SDK. Most of the examples don't even compile on the current SDKs.

There's not much detail in any of the mobile/Symbian sections, with a pretty short overall introduction to Qt.
You'd be better of buying a detailed "general" Qt development book, and then reading up on the Qt and Forum Nokia websites for the upto date mobile specific areas, which is where the (old) info in this book seems to have come from in the first place.

Very disappointed with this book.

The book gives a useful introduction in to writing Qt apps for Symbian devices. The new APIs such as location and messaging are described in some detail, with example source.

What I haven't found in the book is a guide to making apps fit on the small screen, or a reference to how the various Qt controls are rendered on different phones.

The book will point you in the right direction, but needs to be combined with a good Qt book (I suggest C++ GUI Programming with Qt4 (Prentice Hall Open Source Software Development)) and online API reference.

This book provides what it sets to do, a concise guide to Qt on Symbian. It goes through installation of the development environment, a short but very useful introduction to Qt programming, and then a number of examples.

I prefer this format to the many other books on Qt that weigh in at nearing a thousand pages and cover pretty much the same material.

It is a pity that the book doesn't cover Qt Creator, but it was written before QtCreator was released.
