5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Setup and Fast 23 April 2012
By BPen

I needed to replace my existing NAS as it did not support Mac OS Lion. I needed a NAS with good MAC and Windows support and large capacity for future multimedia growth. I bought the QNAP TS-419P II after reading good reviews of QNAP products and checking compatibility on their website. It came unpopulated and I added 4 x Seagate 2TB disks (SEAGATE 2TB 7.2RPM 3.5 6G/B SATA 64MB BARRACUDA) also bought from Amazon. Installing the disks was very simple - much simpler than I had expected. Setup was very easy using my iMac and connection from our Windows laptops and iPad was equally simple. I have configured the QNAP with RAID 5 and connected it using both ethernet ports. I have been using it now for 4 months and I am delighted: it is very fast - much faster than my old Buffalo Terra Station Pro - and has a very small footprint. The prices for both the QNAP NAS and the Seagate disks were - by my comparisons - also excellent value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best piece of kit I have bought for years 19 Sep 2012
Size Name:Enclosure|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been using a low-spec PC as a home server for years, for file backups and also media streaming around the house. I had been perfectly happy with it. Then a disk failed.

Rather than simply replace the disk I decided that it was time to see how well NAS devices had evolved (having tried an early Buffalo Terrastation years ago and found it dreadful).

The QNAP 419PII is superb. The only issue I had was finding disks that were on their compatability chart. Setup was a breeze, requiring minimal imput to their wizard.

I cannot believe how quiet and cool it runs. I keep looking under my desk at the front panel LEDs just to ensure that it is still on :) My study is now so much nicer to work in, without the drone of the previous PC fans and the heat it kicked out.

Only used it as a file server and media streamer (TwonkyMedia), so cannot comment on the other functions it offers.

In summary, absolutely perfect for home use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what was expected 26 Dec 2012
Size Name:Enclosure|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having done a lot of research before buying this NAS, I knew what to expect and it has so far not disappointed.

It's been in full operation now (with four Seagate ST3000DM001 3TB drives in a RAID5 configuration and all updated to the latest firmware) for a week.

The TurboNAS's own firmware update worked flawlessly and was idiot-proof. The configuration wizard to get the box running was perfectly fine for someone with a little network knowledge.

So far the only surprise has been how quiet this box has been. I read reviews complaining that it's loud but in my (clearly, limited) experience, it's far quieter than a D-Link NAS that I used to own. Also, far cooler in temperature terms.

If I discover something particularly excellent or poor, I'll update this review.
