Lots of interesting science that we have often wondered about. He writes about headless chickens, walking on hot coals, farting and the Loch Ness monster amongst other interesting things. I would recommend it for science lovers of all ages.

Learn How a Chicken Survived Without a Head, Why Bellybutton Lint Occurs and is Blue Plus Lots More,,,, 15 July 2007
By James N Simpson - Published on
Format: Paperback
Like all of Dr Karl Kruszelnicki's books myths are debunked and facts you've always wondered about are explained in entertaining and interesting ways. There's text and diagrams for the reader with the info told in layman's terms and with Karl's nerdish humour.

In this book Dr Karl tells the reader about Mike the headless chicken. A chicken who survived for years in the USA (and became a star) after a farmer cut off his head. Dr Karl explains how this was possible.

Dr Karl tells us interesting facts about eggs as well as how to boil them so they don't crack and don't have a flat bottom and also cut down on bacteria (very handy I actually didn't know this).

Dr Karl explains why Chilli burns and does other things to you.

Dr Karl explains why anyone who claims they are a firewalker is a con artist and tells us what they actually do when it looks like they are walking over hot rocks.

The myth that the Great Wall of China can be seen from space is debunked. He also gives a lot of info on the wall you probably didn't know before such as it is not actually one long wall and different parts have been built, fallen down and rebuilt over and over again throughout history.

The Loch Ness monster's existence is proven not to be possible and interesting reasons for its sightings are hypothesised (including rotting trees).

The myth that your hair can turn white overnight or through fear is debunked.

Belly button lint, what is it? How does it get there? Why is it usually blue even when you aren't wearing blue clothing? Dr Karl explains it all and gives us the results of the massive Australian research project listeners of his Australia wide radio show undertook.

Smell and the memories it creates are explained as are passing wind and how often everyone does (even if they pretend they don't).

The age of question of why women take so long compared to men to use the bathroom is explained.

Why queues of women toilets are longer along with many other interesting facts about queues. Learn why you should never line up in the centre registers at your supermarket and why airlines make you walk so far to get your bags.

Why does a room spin when your drunk and many other facts are explained in this great, fun interesting book of facts.

Check out his other books as well.
