Very easy to read and thus learn from, with clear, colour illustrations to help you understand. It takes it nice and steady without dropping you in the deep end as some books are prone to do. There are useful side tips, reminders and warnings to key points and the level of explanation is detailed enough with out going into heavy territory.

Overall a great book for those learn Python whether they are a complete beginner to programming or switching from another language.

A very comprehensive and easy book to read. It is nicely laid out and logically sequenced. I myself currently study computer science (programming) and so bought this book for revision purposes. It also showed me some new features which i have never seen in my life before! Finally, (to end this rant) I really like python and study electronics as a hobby and so allows me to apply combined knowledge of python and apply it to PIC chips and the raspberry pi.

In short: It's a bloody fantastic book and I love it!

However: (time to moan) it can be difficult to understand at some points. I have already been taught a lot of python in computing GCSE and so can easily grasp the angle the book is trying to inform at, but I fear that for others t may be slightly more difficult. Then again, I wasn't in the mindset to read this when i did (harsh case on insomnia - not that you care). It requires focus to grasp (python is fairly challenging mentally) but I am confident anyone will be able to learn off of this and the online resource it provides (mentioned near start of book somewhere).

Recommendations: website of 'introtopython.org' to further understanding of python along side this book.

Delivery was fast (as expected date) and was packaged well; whcih wasn't difficult to get into either. The book is neatly set out and nicely coloured (and colour coded).

(Phew. Done... you can rest now)

It is ok but too simple.......If you want to learn python in a depth, you need to read more advanced books...

I've given up on learning from McGrath.

This will be the last book I buy with his name on it.

The reason is I don't enjoy the way exercises are taught. I feel having a book with wider scope for Python would be a more conducive way to learn. This book feels like an untidy, truncated approach and therein somewhat claustrophobic in this respect.

There are better books, even though the "Easy Steps" format appears to offer a tempting way into learning something new for the first time, at least on the face of it (literally).

Helpful to a degree, not as clear as one could hope for, but I have not written any code for a long long time.

This has some excellent activities in it but i still think the author needs to use less jargon as this book would still be difficult for some non-programmers to understand. It is a a very good book for people with knowledge of the basics of a computer language to learn the specifics of Python.

I love the book but I am a bit disappointed that it doesn't tell anything about Python as a web technology, namely how to use Python in the web using a web server. I expected the book to introduce me a bit to CGI, Django, etc. As a PHP developer I miss that very much because I don't know how to use Python as a web and server-side technology. On the other hand - to help us out - there is a general "Python in the Web" IRC channel on freenode called #python.web.
