Good for beginners and gives some good tips, but the projects aren't as easy to follow as they could have been. I wish the author had chosen to include a couple of extra pages with full-size templates, rather than include a tiny thumbnail on each project page. This book is good for getting ideas from, but not for following the projects step-by-step.

I got this book out of the library and to be honest I'm glad I hadn't spent money on it. I had finished reading it in 20 mins, and it didn't tell me anything that I wouldn't have worked out with a bit of common sense. There was no detail in the numerous 'step by step' projects: they all seemed to consist of the same set of brief instructions (draw pattern freehand onto item, or copy a template with carbon paper; fill in outlines with pyrography tool; then fill in detail; then colour if desired).

The safety tips might be helpful for some, as would the calligraphy page, showing how to create letters. But I would suggest there are more useful books out there on the subject for your money.

Disappointing 24 Sep 2010

This book was a let down.
The pyrography tool used in the book is not the same as the one sold elsewhere on Amazon; which invalidates some of the tip advice.
The projects are a sequence of examples of the author's work but lack the detail and templates to allow the reader to copy what the author has done.
The projects are all of a similar level of difficulty that is perhaps too much for the beginner.
The instructions are repetitive, almost identical for each project, while that's because many of the projects are executed in the same way it's a waste of space in the book that would have been much better employed giving some templates for the reader to copy.
