Product Description

Please Note: 3DS titles are not compatible with standard Nintendo DS consoles

Puzzle Bobble Universe sees brothers Bub and Bob facing more bubble trouble as they stumble across an unmanned spaceship and a distant cry for help.

Unknown to the dinosaur duo, several surrounding planets have "doors" in their vicinity which have been opened, releasing floods of bubbles that are rapidly turning into hazardous space-debris. With Bob captured by the Boss, Bub must act fast to ensure the future safety of all the planets and their inhabitants.

  • The legendary puzzle game Puzzle Bobble comes full speed to the Nintendo 3DS
  • Experience an all-new feeling of depth only made possible by the 3DS
  • All-new features including Challenge Mode and a trophy system
  • Puzzle Mode: The player travels around 8 different worlds to rescue friends. Each world contains 10+1 stages for a total of 88 stages in the entire game
  • Challenge Mode: The player can choose from a selection of challenge modes including Non-Stop Bubbles, and timed games where the player must burst as many bubbles as possible in 100 and 300 seconds.
  • Gimmick Bubbles: Dramatic visual effects on a screen with depth have been added to the well-received traditional puzzle elements where the player tries to put colourful bubbles together to make them disappear!

Disappointing 9 Sep 2011
Fun:
Very lacking game. The only modes are an endless puzzle mode *basicly one puzzle after the other, increasing the speed* and an Arcade mode. No VS AI or 2 player modes. Game is very lacking and disapointing. 3D just consists of 3D images being thrown out after you beat a level. *photos consist of Bub*

There are much better games out there, such as Puzzle Bobble Galaxy for DS.

This games bosses are also extremely simplistic but are not too bad. They sometimes pop out using the 3D to dodge your bubbles but thats it. I don't recomend this game.

Fun:
It is your average puzzle bobble gameplay with some cool power ups thrown in there in between. Puzzle Bobble consists of you shooting different colored bubbles and matching them with 2 or more other bubbles of the same color to pop them.

There are two main modes, Puzzle (essentially Arcade mode) and Challenge.
In puzzle mode you go through a certain number of different levels in a 'world' until you reach boss [there are around 10 worlds]. The boss fights are pretty repetitive but there is a little bit of replayability if you wish to unlock awards (which from what I've seen do not add anything to the game).
Challenge mode has 3 submodes, including 100 second mode, 300 second mode, and nonstop mode (you can also unlock awards for these modes too).
Thats all there is in the game unfortunately (can't believe they didn't add a vs mode.. one of the best parts of puzzle bobble), but if you enjoy the puzzle bobble formula and can get it cheap, it is good.

Some things I would like to add-

you only play as bub (the green dinosaur) and you cannot unlock any other characters

there is a quick save mode which allows you to shut off the console and return to it at a later time (only available in nonstop mode)

there are different difficulty settings in challenge mode allowing you to ramp up the difficulty.
easy: pointer guide plus no time limit for you to shoot the bubble you are holding
normal: pointer guide plus time limit for you to shoot the bubble you are holding
hard: no pointer guide plus time limit for you to shoot the bubble you are holding(this one can get pretty hard)

this is a 3DS game so I should comment on the 3d.. its pretty minimal and doesn't add to gameplay (though I do like how one of the powerups seems to pop out for me) but it is noticeable and looks good, what do you expect from puzzle bobble really.

UPDATE October 14th 2011
So I finally got all the awards.. and they don't seem to do anything at all. I was hoping they would unlock something but I guess not.

Fun:
This a rehash of a game that has already been rehashed around 10 times, with little change to the core gameplay.

This is itself would not be unforgivable, even if it were something as lazy as Bust A Move 2 on the 3ds (because hey, Bust A Move 2 was an awesome game). But somehow, a full priced game released in 2011 has far, far less features, a single player that is a fraction of the length, pointless gameplay mechanics that were clearly not tested (A Lv3 super attack which is practically press button to win level), the complete removal of VS Cpu, NO MULTIPLAYER OF ANY KIND and puzzles that do not compare to an old Playstation 1 game released in 1996. Oh and Boss fights being reduced solely to a bonus round where you spam bubbles at a moving target, and if you mess up, the round is cleared but you have to go through all 10 repetitive and unchanging stages to try the fight again.

What. The. Hell?! This is like a new Madden being released with half the teams missing, no VS and only the most boring single player mode (and not the one that would give the game life span beyond a few hours) available, and a bunch of beta test mechanics and gimmicks that with even 5 minutes of play you would see do not work.

Their is also a superior version of Puzzle Bubble/Bust a Move on the ds, making this game COMPLETELY REDUNDANT. The DS game has several times as many stages and puzzles in this game, each one better balanced and more enjoyable than the ones in this game, vs computour, ACTUALLY MULTIPLAYER and will likely cost less than this game. The only thing you miss is the pointless 3d and press X to clear level game mechanic. THATS IT. This game does NOTHING better than much older, cheaper and more complete games. Even the bloody GAMEBOY COLOUR Bust A Move has more content than this game. I mean seriously what the hell?

Assuming it were the only bust a move/Puzzle Bubble game in existence.. it would still be a horrendous buy at 30 quid. I paid 10, and with the lack of content in this game I still felt ripped off. After a few hours I had cleared all the single player content in the game, with no extras left. This is something you should never be able to say about a Bust a Move game.

Fun but a bit too easy!!
Okay this game is fun. It has the music we all love from Bustamove but with a different twist for each level. My main beef is that the game so far seems way too easy. Read more

Undemanding fun
Undemanding puzzle game, not significantly different from previous versions, but fun to play for a while, shows off the 3D effect very well.

The universally lazy Square-Enix
