Product Description

Product Description

Putting Assessment for Learning into Practice is about the purpose of teaching and assessment as a means to ensuring deep, maximised, engaged and challenging learning. The simple message is good teaching can overcome bad testing and central to assessment for learning is empowering learners through developing learning autonomy. This means involving learners in their own learning through reflection but also as co-constructors and co-negotiators of their learning. This book is for all teachers and school leaders who are committed to ensuring learners are engaged in successful, meaningful and deep learning. Effective strategies based upon good practice are identified which place teachers and learners as central to the process of owning and adapting their teaching and learning.

A worthwhile read 23 Aug 2011

The advice, guidance and suggestions are great. There are ideas you can use individually whilst you develop as a course team or department or provider.

I have achieved four outstandings in a row since reading this book and now regularly incorporate many of the ideas in my teaching. It is a very easy read compared to some of the other AFL books I have read, many of which I have found to be a bit too academic. It gets straight to the point and provides easy to implement strategies for improving AFL.

Great when you are busy planning and marking and only have limited time to read. What I liked was there was a bit of very accessible theory on the pages marked 'Advice' and then how it could be applied practically on the pages marked 'Activity'. Also,it was positive without being too earnest and realistic about what is possible in most class rooms.
