Spencer Leigh's comprehensive history of the career of Lonnie Donegan has obviously been well researched and thoughtfully written but it has clearly been produced on the cheap. The poor set up of the pages sometimes makes it difficult to read, the interesting illustrations are often a little blurred and the proof reading leaves much to be desired but, having said that, the content makes it essential reading for Donegan aficiandos like myself. Leigh gives an honest appraisal of all phases of Lonnie's career, resisting the temptation to sensationalise both highs and lows, and it compares very favourably with some other glossier but hysterical and inaccurate Donegan biographies. "Puttin' on the Style - The Lonnie Donegan Story" is packed with so many fascinating details and insights that the reader hardly notices the printing deficiencies.
