Book Description

1 Mar 2012
Intelligent books about Vladimir Putin have been few and far between because, of all the world leaders, the man his friends call 'Vlad' has managed to remain an enigma. This highly personal biography of Russia's leader is the result of six years' research by author Chris Hutchins, a successful investigative journalist and much-published biographer. His associate, Alexander Korobko, is a London-based Russian journalist and TV director. This book goes some way towards ending the enigma that is Vladimir Putin.

I read that Chris Hutchins became fascinated by Putin whilst writing his biography of Abromovich, this shines through here as he tries to get to the root of this extraordinary man Putin. Chris clearly has no axe to grind and that really does make this book work.

There is literally no stone left unturned in his search for the "inner man", with illuminating detail about family and childhood, teenage years, ambition and first love leading to some conclusions as to where his remarkable charisma and aura of power come from.

There is of course a political context to this book but it's far from being a "stuffy" political analysis, it does not have a sensationalist flavour nor is it loaded with the more outlandish claims found in other biographies. Read them all together is probably good advice!

"Putin" reads very well as a firm yet balanced and above all well researched biography that goes a long way toward revealing how this man called Putin ticks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting book, interesting man 6 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a a slightly shallow book about one of the most important people in the world-VP. A fascinating guy one cannot expect a greatd eal of open ness about an ex KGB guy even though he was more of a KGB lawyer than Smersh assassin .

The book is very readable but padded out with some long sections on generic contemporary russian history which is why I only gave it 3 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars The Life of Putin 29 Jan 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is very well written not only covering the life and rise of Mr Putin but how he has made his millions and how he clings to power for him and his cronies, and the fact he has introuduced a truncated form of democracy in Russia.

Well worth a read.
