What's the real secret of successful job hunters?

In these unstable times, everyone wants to stand out from the crowd and secure a rewarding job with long-term potential. But what does it actually take to get the job you want? Ninety-seven percent of employers argue that it goes beyond having the right skills - it's all about the right mindset.

James Reed, chairman of recruitment giant Reed, knows what employers really want from the people they hire and promote. With bestselling author Paul Stoltz, he has now identified exactly what makes you more likely to succeed when you're job hunting.

In this book, Reed and Stoltz explain the '3G Mindset' - the way to develop the traits that will set you apart from the herd. Their powerful tools will help you assess your own mindset, and show employers your true value.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk' 4 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback
The basic message of "Put Your Mindset to Work" is that if you acquire the right mindset and bring it to the workplace, you will bring added value to your employers, increase your own self esteem and, as a consequence, find your life more rewarding. This seems to me to be incontrovertibly true! I freely admit that in the actual process of reading self-help books, especially when they are as nicely set out and as clearly written as "Put Your Mindset To Work", I often find myself suffused with a warm glow and the sense that I have already attained whatever is on offer in the book.... but as soon as the book is put aside, I soon discover to my chagrin that little or nothing remains. "Put Your Mindset To Work" is not like that, it is interactive giving you free access to the 3G Mindset Website until April 2017, this enables you to monitor and improve your mindset on an ongoing basis..... Highly Recommended!!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much endorsement, not enough content 20 Sep 2011
Format:Audio CD
Working in recruitment I had high hopes for this book and the audiobook (CD) format seemed an ideal way to fit learning a new concept around other commitments.

I was quickly disappointed, not least because most of the first hour is taken up with little more than endorsement of the concept (that mindset trumps skillset) repeated over and over again. And I mean over and over again, relentlessly pushing this point even into later chapters but without much insight into how to apply this knowledge to my life and career. I found myself thinking that if this premise was simply noted as a short introduction and not repeated, the whole thing would have been half the length and I became more and more frustrated with each new anecdote or one-liner that backed up the bones but without adding any meat.

There is also a practical issue with this resource as a CD. A number of exercises utilise a table of data however the data is not presented as part of the exercise, simply referred to as a figure, like being told a story about an exercise without being able to participate. Subsequently the listener misses out on valuable information, which given the above is scarce enough as it is.

Perhaps the format of the paper/kindle copy offers a less frustrating experience, but despite the never-ending endorsements I would not recommend this resource.

Now on my second round reading this book I've drawn to the conclusion that whilst it concentrates much on finding the right job, the ideology of the book has a far broader appeal. Read more
